Eating a healthy diet can be key to unlocking more years of your life
Consuming a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins is one of the answers to a longer lifespan, according to a GP.
Women’s Health GP at the Harley Street GP clinic, The London General Practice, Dr Elise Dallas has shared her tips for longevity. She explained the best measures you can take to add additional years to your life.
Dr Dallas said: "It's essential to listen to your body... I personally make conscious choices to maintain a nutritious diet and try to limit processed foods and excessive sugar or salt intake."
The doctor said adding the two foods kefir or kombucha into your diet daily, is the secret you need to know for a longer life.

She said: "My nutrition non-negotiables include green vegetables and also my kefir or kombucha daily. Kefir and kombucha can be wonderful additions to a healthy diet.
"They provide probiotics, support gut health, and offer potential benefits for digestion and overall well-being. Including these fermented foods in your diet may bring positive changes."
Fermented foods have been shown to improve health and digestion as well as better immunity and increased weight loss.
Dr Dallas also recommended trying intermittent fasting, which is an eating pattern that changes between periods of eating and fasting.
Dr Dallas said: "As a GP, I've found intermittent fasting to be a fascinating approach to maintaining good health. It has been associated with various health benefits, including reduced inflammation, improved brain function, and enhanced cellular repair processes."
The doctor explained that some studies prove intermittent fasting to be an effective measure for people to take, but re-iterated the importance of speaking to your doctor before trying any of these out.
Dr Dallas advised: "Some studies suggest it may have a positive impact on longevity, although more research is needed to fully understand these effects. It’s important to note that intermittent fasting isn't suitable for everyone, especially those with certain medical conditions or nutritional needs.
"So, it's always best to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new dietary approach to ensure it aligns with your individual health goals and needs."

Dr Dallas' recommendations are one of several ways to help with your longevity.
Enjoying a plant-based diet high in beans and legumes or incorporating eggs into your first meal of the day are two excellent ways to add years to your life.
By adding eggs at the beginning of your day you are "getting so much protein, vitamin A, B12, folate, vitamin D, vitamin E, choline, healthy fats [and good] cholesterol," according to peak performance coach and founder of Longevity & Lifestyle, Claudia von Boeselager.
She said these breakfast "power foods" can "unlock your longevity" and reduce your risk of type two diabetes and heart disease.
