Just as some foods support the regeneration of cells, others cause significant damage over time

Longevity is predetermined by genes but lifestyle also dictates how we age, giving people significant control over their future.

Nutritionist Patrick Quillin recently spoke of a component many unhealthy foods have in common; Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs).

With more than 40 years of researching the link between cancer and nutrition, Patrick told his TikTok followers about the effects of these glycotoxins on the ageing process.

AGEs are implicated in the ageing process primarily through the development of age-related conditions, he explained.

The glycotoxins accumulate in the body and contribute to the damage of tissue over time. They also hinder cellular function.

Patrick explained: “Advanced Glycation End Products age you. Scientists have found glycotoxins in food with high fat, high protein and high temperature. Or take a long time to cook.

“You get more AGEs and they age you. They literally are a risk factor for Alzheimer’s, Cancer, Diabetes, and Sarcopenia.

"To protect your body from the deleterious molecules, Patrick advises steering clear of certain foods.

“At the top of the chart for AGEs is bacon. When you fry bacon you’ve got protein, fat, high temperature, and a lot of ageing factors in there.

“At the bottom of the list is fresh produce. You will find no AGEs in fresh products.

“Keto and Paleo people, beware when you’re frying up a big steak every day, that may lower your blood glucose but you are also playing havoc with AGEs or glycotoxins."

It’s well known that incorporating whole foods into the diet is encouraged for those seeking longevity.

A doctor speaking on behalf of The Herbal Doctors recently explained how patients who live the longest primarily eat natural foods.

Additionally, during a recent conversation with GB News, Leslie Kenny spoke of some of the whole foods she consumed to reverse her biological age by decades.

Other healthy lifestyle measures like exercise and sleep should also be prioritised for those seeking longevity.

There is growing evidence that avoiding smoking, and alcohol and maintaining strong social connections is equally important.
