Tom Bradby has sparked outrage on social media with his remarks about Donald Trump

ITV presenter Tom Bradby has sparked outrage on social media after suggesting that the some people believe that United States may have elected a "fascist" as President.

During ITV's election special, Bradby remarked: "There will be a lot of people watching at home who will not be able to conceive that the most powerful democratic country in the world has elected somebody, who people closest to him called a fascist."


His comment infuriated some social media users, who took to X to complain about the remarks.

One person said: "ITV showing their real colours.. #Trumpamania."

Another penned: "Tom Bradby calls Donald Trump fascist and Emily Maitlis goes off air.

"Yes, he’s entitled to his opinion but why should he be given national broadcasting rights to express it? Only a journalist, not an elected politician."

A third said: "ITV news is totally disgusting. All they are doing criticising the man, so biased."

His comments came as Donald Trump secured victories in Georgia and North Carolina, boosting his chances of returning to the White House.

Other British media figures echoed Bradby's concerns, with journalist Emily Maitlis leaving her Channel 4's election show after swearing due to heightened emotions over the election results.

Co-anchor Krishnan Guru-Murthy was forced to apologise for the language on air.

Recounting a controversial statement by Donald Trump, she remarked live on air: "It's not that they disagree about one thing. The whole thing is asymmetric.

"When Donald Trump talked about eating cats and dogs.

"Half of America were thinking, 'This is bats**t. I can't believe what he's saying. This is going to be the end of him'."

Krishnan interjected with a stern: "Stop swearing. I have to tell [the guests] off for swearing and then you do it."

Emily had then later disappeared off screen and her co-host updated viewers: "I will tell off Emily later because I know she started swearing.

"It may be the middle of the night in Britain but we're still a little bit sensitive about that stuff."
