The animal-lover died on Sunday after being diagnosed with terminal cancer

Wildlife SOS star Simon Cowell has died following a battle with cancer, it has been confirmed.

Tributes have poured in for the 72-year-old, who was best-known for hosting Animal Planet and Wildlife SOS. He also founded the Wildlife Aid Foundation.


Legendary broadcaster Cowell received a terminal lung cancer diagnosis in June 2022, and found out last month he disease had spread to other organs and he was given just weeks to live.

A statement from the Wildlife Aid Foundation stated on Monday: "It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Simon Cowell MBE, conservationist, founder and CEO of the Wildlife Aid Foundation and presenter of Wildlife SOS.

"Simon passed away peacefully on Sunday (June 9) after a brave battle with cancer, surrounded by his daughters, his partner and his dogs.

"Simon was one of the UK’s most respected conservationists and a passionate advocate for wildlife protection and environmental causes."

The statement continued: "He dedicated his life to British wildlife and worked tirelessly to ensure countless injured and orphaned animals were given a second chance in the wild through rescue, clinical treatment, and rehabilitation.

"He campaigned relentlessly to raise awareness of the plight of wildlife and the importance of all species."

Heartbroken fans left moving tributes on social media following the news, with many taking to social media to reflect on his career.

"Rip Simon cowell from animal aid such a sad loss x," one person penned.

A second wrote: "So incredibly sorry to hear of the passing of Wildlife Aid Foundations founder Simon Cowell.

"The work this incredible man did in saving Britain's wildlife was second to none. My condolences go to his Daughter Lou and family at this very sad time. RIP Simon."

"Absolutely gutted. It didn't matter that we knew it was going to happen. It's still heartbreaking to lose such a kind, caring, and amazing person. What he's done for our wildlife over the decades is immeasurable. Thank you! RIP Simon Cowell," a third shared.

Another posted: "So sad. Simon Cowell was a true hero for our wildlife. His passion & dedication to their welfare is nothing short of inspirational, and his legacy will continue. Thoughts are with his family and friends. RIP Simon. Thank you."

"So sad, he was a wonderful, kind, man. RIP Simon Cowell," another added.

"RIP Simon Cowell, founder of Wildlife Aid and all round decent man. Such sad news," a different fan remarked.

Paying tribute to Cowell's impressive career, someone else added: "This man was on the same level as Steve Irwin.

"Always putting himself at risk and inconveniencing himself to help wildlife. He gets a call at 2am? He's there to help. RIP Simon Cowell. Wildlife aid and the world lost a great man yesterday."
