Tony Bennett has died at the age of 96, in New York City, seven years after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

The singer performed well into his 90s and only stopped recording as recently as 2021.

His back catalogue includes a number of instantly recognisable tunes such as Rags to Riches, New York State of Mind, and I've Got You Under My Skin.

In recent years, Bennett collaborated with the likes of Amy Winehouse and Lady Gaga while still performing solo on stage.

The singer also racked up a number of Grammy Awards during his career as well as two Emmys.

His last public appearance came alongside Lady Gaga at Radio City Music Hall back in August 2021.

Fans from far and wide have flocked to social media to share their condolences following the news of Bennett's death.

One fan said on Twitter: "Tony Bennett has passed away at the age of 96. An incredible life. Rest in peace…"

While a Lady Gaga fan account echoed: "Rest in Peace, Mr. Tony Bennett. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world."

Bennett is survived by his four children from his first two marriages.

His eldest, Danny and Dae, he shared with first wife Patricia Beech.

Bennett's youngest two, Joanna and Antonia, are the children of his second wife, Sandra Grant Bennett.

He had been married to current wife Susan Crow, 56, since 2007.

Bennett retained a positive outlook on life following his Alzheimer's diagnosis, tweeting back in 2021: "Life is a gift - even with Alzheimer’s.

"Thank you to Susan and my family for their support."

And the disease didn't put a stop to the legendary crooner taking to the stage in his final years either with Bennett's wife saying just two years ago: "He's not the old Tony anymore, but when he sings, he’s the old Tony."
