The Grand Tour's final episode is set to take place in Zimbabwe and will be released late this year

The Grand Tour fans have become convinced that Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are returning to the Amazon Prime series after Clarkson dropped a cryptic video on his Instagram account.

The motorhead trio first began their series back in 2016 after their departure from the BBC's Top Gear and continued their passion in new and more adventurous ways.

However, last year, they came to a decision that the ongoing season would be their last and left fans devastated that they were putting their petrol caps on, and leaving their supercars behind.

Viewers recently watched the penultimate instalment - Sand Job - which saw Clarkson, Hammond and May jet off to Mauritania, Africa and drive along the route made famous by the Paris-Dakar Rally.

The final instalment - which is said to be released later this year - will see the three friends head to Zimbabwe for their final race around the tracks.

However, fans have recently become convinced that there will be another instalment of the series after Clarkson posted a video on his Instagram account, sitting alongside his motorhead friends.

He simply captioned the video: "I'm in a time warp," before panning the camera around to see Hammond and May, alongside two other of their friends.

In a frenzy, many jumped to the conclusion that they were reunited for another season of The Grand Tour, with one simply commenting: "A new Grand Tour?"

"One more big Grand Tour with Tif and some other big names from back in the day would be one incredible way to bow out," another stated.

"A hint of another Grand Tour," a third penned before another stated: "God I need one more!"

Dampening the theories of some eager fans, one said: "No didn't you hear? They've done it all apparently." (sic)

Hammond recently opened up on their decision to call time on the popular Amazon series and told Yahoo News: "The key thing on that whole issue [is] we had decided years ago that we wanted to be in control.

"Having set off on this incredible adventure that none of us thought would ever come our way, we all wanted to be the ones — and I don't just mean us three, all of us— to decide when and where and how we landed it, and we have done.

"But that isn't uppermost in our minds yet because we haven't finished. We've worked together a very long time and been lucky to share some simply incredible experiences that none of us ever thought would come our way," he recalled.

Clarkson's Instagram video comes after May teased fans that there would be a possibility that the three could reunite for a new project in the future.

He told The Times: "I wouldn’t rule it out, but you do have to bear in mind that we’re all getting on a bit. What happens between now and then we’ll have to wait and see."
