The Crown fans have been left confused after it was revealed the Netflix hit has been nominated for eight awards at the BAFTAs 2024.
Best Actor, Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress are just some of the nominations the highly popular series have been put forward for.
However, the nominations have received a slew of backlash as many claimed the series had “gone downhill” and became a “snooze fest”.
Others concluded that the sixth series had a strong start, but it wasn’t as entertaining as it once was when it began back in 2016.
As the nominations were announced, fans of the award ceremony and the series quickly took to their social media to complain.
One fumed: “Ghosts was the most watched comedy in 2023 and you've not nominated it in any category. But have managed to nominated some pretty mediocre stuff such as The Crown.”

“What a miracle that The Crown is being nominated in several BAFTA categories?” another added before a third quipped: “It really shows how awards are a waste of time outside of the sector they are for that The Crown tops the BAFTA list. Who cares? News organisations should just ignore them.”
One fan expressed: “BAFTA TV nominations are out. Just give everything to Happy Valley already, it more than deserves it. The Crown and Black Mirror stinking up the nominations lists with seasons that were just not good.”
“The Crown is a snooze fest and Slow Horses should clean up,” a fourth admitted before another jibed: “The Crown went downhill after Claire Foy played The Queen…pitiful.”
One annoyed viewer claimed: “Last 2 seasons of The Crown were awful Happy Valley not happy was very good if grim.” (sic)

Elsewhere, fans were also furious that James Norton failed to receive any nominations for his portrayal of Tommy Lee Royce in Happy Valley.
Steve Coogan received a nod as Best Actor for his controversial portrayal of paedophile Jimmy Savile, which aired last year despite calls for it to be scrapped.
His portrayal of the disgraced presenter was described as “eerily good”, however the series sparked criticism for making entertainment out of the harrowing events.
17 out of 44 nominees in the performance categories have received their first BAFTA TV Awards nomination.
