Tamayo Perry, 49, the lifeguard who starred in the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie has died.

Perry was attacked by a shark off Oahu in Hawaii.

Honolulu mayor Rick Blangiardi branded Perry's death "a tragic loss" as he said: "Tamayo was a legendary waterman and highly respected."

Fans of Perry's similarly shared their kind words about Perry on social media following his death.

One penned: "RIP Tamayo Perry. The Pipeline specialist and Honolulu County Lifeguard will be dearly missed by the entire North Shore community.

"He lost his life today in a shark incident at Goat Island off O’ahu. My deepest condolences to his family and many friends."

"Terrible news out of Oahu today. RIP Tamayo Perry," another added before a third weighed in: "I just heard an old friend Tamayo Perry died from a shark attack on Oahu at Goat Island. So sad. He was a sweetheart."

A fourth echoed: "I met Tamayo Perry and his sweet wife Emilia earlier this year at a talk story at Turtle Bay where he reminisced about North Shore surfing. He was special. What a tragic loss."

And a fifth added: "Sounds like we lost Tamayo Perry from shark attack at Goat Island. My friends surf there. Pretty shocking. I met Tamayo years ago. Very sad to hear this. RIP TP."
