The musician's management announced the news in an Instagram post

Sting has cancelled upcoming gigs at late notice due to ill health, prompting floods of concerned messages from the singer's fans.

The 73-year-old rocker has been forced to pull out of appearances scheduled for this week, with his management sharing the news on his social media.

The former Police frontman is set to play in six festivals this year, as well as his tour.

The songwriter is seemingly suffering from an unknown illness, with his management releasing a statement on his Instagram.

It read: "On advisement from his doctor, due to illness, it is with sincere regret that Sting must cancel his appearance at the Bass Magazine Awards this Thursday…

"And postpone his STING 3.0 concerts in Phoenix, AZ (originally scheduled for January 24) to June 1 and Wheatland, CA (originally scheduled for January 26) to May 28 as well as his performance at the Cherrytree Music Company’s 20th anniversary, now taking place May 29."

Instructing ticket-holders on what they should do, the post continued: "Fans should retain their tickets for the postponed shows, as they will be honored on the new dates.

"Sting sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience and extends his gratitude to the fans for their understanding." (sic)

Sting is also scheduled to perform later this month at a benefit concert in aid of the tragic LA wildfires, but this is likely going to depend on his health and recovery.

He's also set to perform in a string of UK gigs as part of his world tour, which is coming to London in October this year.

Responding to the news, many fans shared concerns in the comment section of Sting's post.

One penned: "He'll be back soon, he's strong, I think it's just some kind of cold or flu. Anyway, I wish him recovery and send him hugs and support!"

"Please get well soon Sting. Much love," another pleaded, with a third adding: "Rest well, Sting."

Someone else shared: "I'm not gonna lie my heart started beating so fast. I thought it was saying he passed. Prayers of healing dear. You Got this!"

"Sending Sting love and healing," another shared.

One more Instagram user penned: "Get well soon maestro. Greetings from Chile! See you soon." (sic)

It's not the first time a mystery condition has led to the iconic musician cancelling a series of gigs.

Back in 2019, Sting was forced to cancel performances in Belgium, Germany, Stuttgart, and the Czech Republic.

At the time, a source reassured fans the illness wasn't serious, stating: "He’s just resting up.

"Everyone is expecting him to be back up and running very soon. He’ll be going straight into the rest of his scheduled tour dates."
