The mother-of-five's two teenage sons were headhunted at a red carpet event

Stacey Solomon's two teenage sons have landed roles in one of the UK's biggest soaps, with the television personality explaining how the youngsters had been headhunted during a red-carpet appearance.

Zachary, 16, and Leighton, 12, were cast in Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks, making their acting debuts in the popular show.

Solomon, 35, was delighted as she announced to her social media followers that it had indeed been their sons viewers had recognised.

It came after Channel 4's Instagram account shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the set with a clip that featured the two teens.

Solomon fans were quick to ask the mother-of-five about it, and she soon took to her Instagram Stories to confirm.

"So many are you messaging me saying, 'Was that Zach and Leighton I saw in Hollyoaks?'" she began.

"I know it's so random but it was!" the BBC Sort Your Life Out host continued.

Labelling the gig the "funniest story," she added: "So when me and Zach went to the NTAs, we ended up meeting, on the red carpet, the exec of Hollyoaks and Zach is the biggest Hollyoaks fan.

"He's obsessed. When he was little he used to get so excited for Sundays to watch the Hollyoaks Omnibus.

"And he was like, 'Oh my God, I love Hollyoaks!' and he was talking to her and she was like, 'Why don't you come down and see the set?'

"He was just over the moon and so excited. Zach wants to be a mechanic when he's older, there's no interesting in acting.

"Neither Zach or Leighton want to do anything in that industry but he was just so excited to go and see the set."

Despite the youngsters' unwillingness to launch a career in acting, Solomon went on to explain how they had been offered the chance to appear in a scene.

"So me, Zach and Leighton went up there and they just loved it," she detailed.

"They were so nervous to be extras. They loved every second of it and the people at Hollyoaks were just so lovely and so kind and so nice to us and they just had the best day ever," she concluded.

The 2009 X Factor finalist then shared a sweet snap of the two standing Hollyoaks actors Charlie Wernham and Charlie Clapham.

She penned: "My boys. For anyone who is raising teenagers I don't know if it's the same for you but it's a rare moment with mine to see them really excited about something.

"So I can honestly say, watching how happy and excited they were this day made my heart so happy."

The small roles saw Leighton featuring as a paperboy who was scolded for turning late for his job, with Zachary was in a scene dressed as a Parcel Patrons worker.

It comes amid heavy online criticism for "nepo babies," a term used to describe children of celebrities landing gigs thanks to their names.

Earlier this week, Rod Stewart's daughter Ruby hit back at online trolls who accused her of using her dad's fame for her benefit.
