The Loose Women star revealed the news on Good Friday and left fans devastated

Stacey Solomon has shared an emotional update on her beloved dog Teddy, who suddenly lost the use of his back legs on Good Friday, revealing the family were "truly devastated".

Solomon told her 6.1 million Instagram followers that Teddy underwent major surgery after the frightening incident, which occurred without warning while he had been "running round all day", showing no signs of pain.

In her initial Instagram post, she penned: "Teddy became suddenly unwell on Thursday. It turns out he has a predisposed condition we had no idea about, as he was a rescue.

"He has been operated on by incredible vets and the next 3-4 days are crucial for him to get through, even then, he might not ever fully recover.

"We are praying and hoping so hard that he pulls through & that we can care for him in the best way we possibly can to give him the best life he can have. We are all truly devastated."

Today, she finally gave her fans an update after being away for a few days and said on her story: "The vet was just like, he's had a burst disc, but all of his discs and all of his spine is not looking good at all," Solomon explained.

She revealed that doctors described Teddy's spine as "really worn" with all of his discs looking deteriorated, with the star initially fearing it might be meningitis or a tumour before an MRI scan revealed the true cause.

After bringing Teddy home, Solomon has dedicated herself to his care, adjusting her work schedule to be with him and admitted: "I have moved my work to work from home and cancelled some things so that I can try and help him recover."

The star performs daily physiotherapy with Teddy and must express his bladder throughout the day, with the pup remaining on medication and crate rest for at least four weeks following his operation.

"Expressing his bladder has been a whole humbling experience," Solomon admitted, describing the challenging new care routine before adding that Teddy's future still remains uncertain, with only a "30 per cent chance he might recover fully".

"There's also a massive chance that he's going to be disabled and unable to urinate for himself and involuntary poos," Solomon explained before adding that he may need "a lot of physio and help for the rest of his life"

"This might be Teddy forever," she said tearfully, acknowledging that her pet may never return to his previous condition.

Solomon is now taking each day as it comes, while the family adjusts to their new reality and admitted: "I've cried a lot. I'm not a good in-person crier. Like I hate crying in front of people."

The star confessed that caring for Teddy has made her feel like she was "doing a s**t job" and "being a really s**t dog mum" at times.

Despite these challenges, Solomon remains grateful that Teddy survived his operation and is back home at Pickle Cottage with the family; "I'm just trying to get my head around that and work out what I can do for him."

The mum-of-five is determined to "give him his best chance" despite the difficult prognosis.

"I want to love him as much as possible and try and make him as happy and comfortable as possible in this situation," she said.

Solomon described Pickle Cottage as being "far too quiet" without Teddy's usual presence, as she balances his intensive care needs with looking after her children.
