Sophia Loren has suffered a series of fractured bones following a fall at her home in Switzerland this past weekend.
On Sunday, Loren had to undergo surgery after the fall and has sustained serious injuries to her femur and hip.
The incident comes less than a week after the actor turned 89 on September 20 and she was set to take on a public engagement by opening a new restaurant.
However, a source has said all engagements have been cancelled involving Loren following the fall in her bathroom.
Loren is believed to have sustained "several fractures to her hip, and a serious fracture to her femur which needed surgery".

The source told The Hollywood Reporter that her friends and family have "cautious optimism" about Loren's wellfare post-operation.
Her journey to recovery will involve a "short convalescence and then a long rehabilitation", according to the publication.
Loren was last spotted in public when she stepped out in Venice at the beginning of the month.
The actor was seen mingling with the stars at the Armani fashion show during the Venice Film Festival.
