Shannen Doherty’s poignant message to Princess Kate revealed in wake of Charmed Star's tragic death

Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and was an outspoken campaigner on the disease.

Following the Princess of Wales’s cancer admission, the actress sent a personal message of support to the royal.

She wrote on her Instagram story back in March: “Being a public figure does not mean the public owns that person.

“We ALL have the right to go through illness or life privately.”

Continuing to add a personal message, Doherty added: “The onslaught of conspiracy theories, ownership, and plain, morbid curiosity forced this person to explain herself before she had come to terms with it and explained it to her children.

“I pray this is a learning moment for us all to respect privacy or others, regardless of being in the public eye.

“And Princess Kate, I admire your strength through the endless onslaught you've been under while going through cancer.”

Leslie Sloane, who worked with Doherty for years, confirmed the actress had died.

“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty,” Sloane told People on Sunday.

“On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease.

“The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie.

“The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace.”

Writing tributes on social media, fans of the actress reacted with sadness to the news.

One user said: “Shannen Doherty was a true warrior. It’s very inspirational how she handled her disease. RIP.”

Another said: “Shannen Doherty has passed away. We lost a great artist, a teenage icon for many of us. Rest in peace.”

A third said: “RIP Shannen Doherty. You will be very missed, thank you for playing such a monumental part in my childhood.”
