Jim Davidson blasted Russell Brand's trial by media and social media

Jim Davidson has reacted to the allegations made against Russell Brand, reflecting on his own personal experience with claims made against him.

The comedian questioned why the police are yet to arrest the British comedy star, following the allegations made by four women, one of which reportedly being investigated by the Metropolitan Police.

Speaking to Dan Wootton on his GB News show, Dan Wootton Tonight, Davidson shared his take on the scandal surrounding the 48-year-old star.

Davidson said: "It's slightly worrying where Channel 4, I mean a great TV channel I have to say it’s unique, and The Sunday Times, the most revered newspaper, and now judge, jury and executioner of anyone they want to put their sights on.

“It's the accusation that has done the job. I don't know Russell Brand. I don't know the facts, what is puzzling me in any of these cases, and I won't talk about Russell's allegations made against him, but anyone can say anything about anybody. We all know that, Dan. But where are the facts? Why haven't the police arrested Russell Brand?

"And I think the answer to that is that no one has complained against the police."

Dan Wootton then addressed the claims made against Davidson himself. Davidson was arrested in 2013 as part of the Metropolitan Police investigation into alleged sexual offences by Jimmy Savile and others.

Davidson had allegations made against him by two women, which dated back approximately 25 years at the time of the claims.

Dan asked: “You were arrested, and you were completely innocent. So in fact, an arrest does also not mean that he should be rushed to be condemned and that he should be demonetised and that the media select committee should demand that every social media platform in the world stop allowing him to make a living.

“Surely we live in a society where he should be innocent until proven guilty and old fashioned concept, but it's an important one?”

Davidson replied: “Well, never mind Russell. I won't make any comment because I don't have the facts, but anyone is innocent until proven guilty. When I was arrested, the accusers were known as victims straight away.

“The policewoman said to me we have to take whatever they say as the facts until we can prove them wrong, rather than the other way around. It's a strange old world that we live in. Britain has got the greatest justice system. And I just have to say the police for me were fantastic. And thank heavens they did a thorough job with the help of of course, Henri Brandman my lawyer and Trevor Burke, my barrister."

Davidson continued: "We gave them all the evidence and then it all stopped. But nothing goes away. You know the accusation is there. Nothing goes away.

"Let me just speak about Russell. If you like him, he's innocent. If you don't like him, he's guilty and you don't need any facts at all and that's the way the world is coming to now,

"you know, someone said, oh I don't like him, he's guilty. Is is that how we do things in this country? No."

He concluded: "I think it's it's ridiculous and if I was him, I would hope that I would be arrested to give me a chance to say, look, I didn't do this and go through the process indeed. But that process has to be allowed to play out and MP's weighing in after reading an article in the newspaper, I mean, shame on them, seriously."
