The beloved drummer strongly suggested new music could be on the way

Queen drummer Roger Taylor has hinted at the possibility of new music from the legendary rock band, nearly three decades after their last studio album.

In a recent interview with Uncut magazine, Taylor revealed that he and guitarist Brian May have been discussing the prospect of releasing fresh material.

The news comes as a surprise to fans, given that Queen's final album with original frontman Freddie Mercury, Made In Heaven, was released posthumously in 1995.

Since then, the band has continued to perform live with vocalists Paul Rodgers and, more recently, Adam Lambert. Taylor's comments have sparked excitement among Queen enthusiasts, who have long wondered if the band would ever return to the studio.

Taylor's comments to Uncut were particularly revealing. He stated: "I think we might. Brian [May] and myself were talking the other day, and we both said that if we feel we have some good material, why not? We can still play. We can still sing. So I don't see why not."

The candid response suggests that the band members are not only considering new music but are confident in their abilities to create and perform it.

Queen's last studio album, Made In Heaven, was released in 1995, featuring posthumous vocals from Mercury.

Since then, the band has continued to perform live, first with Rodgers as lead vocalist from 2004, and then with Lambert taking on the role since 2011.

In October 2022, Queen shared a rediscovered track featuring Mercury's vocals, titled Face It Alone. The song was originally recorded during sessions for their 1989 album The Miracle.

The band recently concluded their Rhapsody Tour in Tokyo this February, showcasing their enduring popularity and musical prowess.

Fans have been left delighted by the news, with several of them taking to X to express their excitement.

One fan account penned: "One of the most iconic rock bands ever might release new music after 30 years!"

"As long as it includes ADAM LAMBERT," another shared, with a third adding: "Yes Roger! Why not indeed! Adam still on board of course!"

Responding to a critical comment, another enthused about the band's new music, writing: "I wonder if you have any idea how many songs Brian and Roger wrote for Queen and how many megahits there are among them."

However, some did question new releases without Mercury, with another adding: "They need a new name, it’s not Queen without Freddie and John," and another echoing: "It ain’t Queen without Freddie." (sic)

Brian May has previously revealed that Queen had "dabbled a little" in making new music with Adam Lambert.

In a US radio interview last year, May stated, "It is just that you haven't heard any of it. It would have to be something so special that we would feel we would want to launch it on the public."

Lambert himself has acknowledged the pressure involved in creating new Queen material. He said: "If they're going to put something out that's new, it's got to be at a certain level.

It has to be the right thing."In 2021, May confirmed that recording sessions had taken place, saying: "Actually, Adam, Roger and myself have been in the studio trying things out, just because things came."
