The couple used to frequent Donald Trump's events before he was president

Penny Lancaster has revealed she banned her husband, Sir Rod Stewart, from attending Donald Trump's parties despite living near him in Florida.

The 53-year-old Loose Women panellist made the admission during today's show and explained that Trump's rhetoric when running for President crossed boundaries, prompting her decision to distance themselves from their former friend.

The couple previously attended parties at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate when they lived just doors away from him in Palm Beach.

Lancaster told the Loose Women panel that initially "all seemed fine" when they attended Trump's gatherings.

Introducing the segment, Kaye Adams noted: "As I am sure everyone is aware, Prime Minister Kier Starmer met with President Donald Trump, where he delivered a very special gift.

"We are hoping, I think, that that was a Trump card, an invitation to come and spend time with King Charles and Camila.

"There was so much apprehension behind that meeting and how it would go because Trump is such a powerful figure at the moment and Penny... you have met him, you have been in the room with him."

Delving into their past relationship, Lancaster began: "Well, like you say, he has that ability to kind of get that audience with his power status and my husband and I, we had the fortune at the time to go to a couple of his events.

"He would run a charity event for the local police, but this was before he started running for President, so we got to see a certain side of him and at the time it was manageable, he worked the room, looked after all his guests, raised lots of money and it seemed fine.

"We have a house in Florida up the road from him, so from time to time we would engage in those events but when he began to run for President and then starting to hear those very dangerous rhetorics."

The former model went on to list off some comments Trump had made about Mexicans and Muslims in the past, claiming it was the last straw for her.

She continued: "I was just like, woah, this is just crossing all sorts of boundaries here, this man sounds like he is going to disrupt the world in an unfortunate way.

"And from that point onwards, I said to my husband, I said ‘Darling we are not going anywhere near him again, I cannot be in the same space as someone who can speak that kind of language’."

She revealed they began turning down any invitations that came their way but noted he was still causing havoc for the family due to their living situation.

"Right now, because he is President again, we are literally five minutes from his house, and he blocks all the roads so you have to go the long way round to get anywhere.

"He literally controls that whole part of Florida. It is an uncomfortable thing. We keep as far as we can, push him, absolute no."

Stewart has also spoken about the breakdown of his friendship with Trump and told MailOnline: "He's not the guy I met 20 years ago. I used to go to his house every Christmas and do concerts. He was a good guy. But he's turned into somewhat of a monster."

The 80-year-old singer revealed to Scottish Field that his wife was firm in her decision and added: "Penny said 'You're not going – he's a disgrace'."

In 2018, Stewart said Trump's "moral compass" was "way off".
