The legendary rocker has been diagnosed with prostate and thyroid cancer before

Sir Rod Stewart, 79, has made a rather haunting prediction about his own mortality and health, revealing how many years he think he has left.

The Do Ya Think I'm Sexy hitmaker has spent his entire life performing for crowds of adoring fans while living a rock 'n' roll lifestyle and continues to fulfill performing duties in Las Vegas.

Plus earlier this year, Stewart pursued a new career avenue when he collaborated with Jools Holland on a Swing album for the first time.

The 79-year-old will perform for crowds at famous Vegas hotspot Caesar's Palace from July 24 to August 7 and has now opened up on his health and how much longer he can continue delivering show-stopping gigs.

When probed on his age, Stewart confessed: "I’m aware my days are numbered but I’ve got no fear.

"We have all got to pass on at some point, so we are all in the same basket. I am going to be enjoying myself for these last few years as much as I can.

"I say few — probably another 15. I can do that easy mate, easy," he told The Sun.

The rocker still does his bit to remain in good shape though, working out several times a week with a personal trainer.

He added to the publication: "I am more aware of my health now than before. You should be when you start getting on a bit. It’s very important.

"I am a bit of a hypochondriac. I think men in particular should take advantage of all the wonderful medical science out there."

Despite nearing 80, Stewart added the he's "not on any pills" and suggested his body has acclimatised to his way of life being a performer.

"You’ve got to remember I’ve been doing this all my life — I don’t suffer after a show. Sometimes I take an anti-inflammatory if my knee is playing up but very rarely," he remarked.

Stewart also admitted he and his tour group do enjoy boozy party nights after their performances even as he approaches 80, but confessed to going easier than he did in the '70s and '80s.

The Maggie May rocker also mentioned how now more than ever he has to "protect" his voice as he adapts to performing in his older age.

But despite his rather morbid prediction about how many years he has until his death, Stewart revealed he has no plans to stop performing.

Stewart isn't the only legendary rocker in recent months to emphasise the importance of protecting his voice when entering more senior years.

Earlier this year, Sir Tom Jones candidly admitted he had "less control" over his voice nowadays as he addressed the prospect of stepping away from the stage.

However, the Sex Bomb singer, much like Stewart, is still going strong and is currently embarking on a world tour.

Meanwhile, there was cause for celebration recently within the Stewart family.

His wife Penny Lancaster revealed she and everyone was left bursting with pride after son Alastair, 18, marked a major milestone in his life recently.
