The Grand Tour final episode will air later this year and take place in Zimbabwe

The Grand Tour presenter Richard Hammond has given an exciting update for all their fans about the future of the highly-popular driving series.

Hammond, James May and Jeremy Clarkson announced last year that the current series of The Grand Tour would be their last.

Fans were left devastated at the news but it seems there may be hope for the future as Hammond admitted it is all in their control.

The 54-year-old and his daughter Izzy Hamond joined Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden on Heart Breakfast to discuss their new podcast, Who We Are Now, and the future of The Grand Tour.

Theakston asked whether there was a possibility of the Amazon Prime show returning and said: “Jeremy [Clarkson] said recently ‘that is it’ for The Grand Tour, Is that it?”

Holden interjected and added: “Is he like Elton John? Does he keep saying ‘that’s it’ and then just makes these come backs?”

Hammond teased: “He’s [Clarkson] quite old, he might equally have said ‘what’s Grand Tour?’ It’s not guaranteed! I mean, it took off and it got carried away.

“We didn’t know, didn’t expect that, so we weren’t in control of when it started and when it grew to be what it turned into. We have always said we want to choose when it airs, and that is at a time and place and a manner of our choosing.

“So, the time will come, of course it will. If anything else, what else do we do? We’re not good at anything! Back to what you were saying earlier on, we’re stuck.”

Amazon refers to the upcoming episode as the “final special of the Grand Tour with the trio”, hinting at the suggestion the show could continue without Clarkson, Hammond and May.

When the news was first announced that the show would be coming to an end, Clarkson told The Times that the show “is immensely physical when you’re unfit and fat and old, which I am…”

He added that the trio has done just about “everything you can do with a car. I’ve driven cars higher than anyone else and further north than anyone else.

“When we had meetings about what to do next, people just threw their arms in the air.”

Not a lot has been revealed about the upcoming series special that will conclude eight years of The Grand Tour.

It will take place in Zimbabwe and will air some point later this year, but nothing else has been revealed - leaving fans even more curious.

Eight months after Eurocrash, the penultimate episode Sand Job was released back in February and saw the trio retracing the original route of the Dakar Rally.
