The son of Snow White producer Marc Platt has sparked controversy after publicly criticising the film's star Rachel Zegler in a now-deleted Instagram comment.
Jonah Platt, 38, defended his father whilst blaming Zegler for the Disney remake's disappointing box office performance, claiming her political social media posts about Palestine and Donald Trump damaged the film's prospects.
The scathing comment, which has since been removed, called the 23-year-old actress "narcissistic" and "immature" for expressing her political views during the film's promotional period.
Jonah's comment was in response to an Instagram user who criticised his father for flying to New York to "reprimand" Zegler.
"My dad, the producer of enormous piece of Disney IP with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, had to leave his family to fly across the country to reprimand his 20-year-old employee for dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting the movie," Jonah wrote.
He added: "Her actions clearly hurt the film's box office. Free speech does not mean you're allowed to say whatever you want in your private employment without repercussions."
The controversy stemmed from a Variety report which revealed that Marc Platt had flown to New York in August to speak directly with Zegler about a social media post she made.
After sharing the Snow White trailer, Zegler had added "and always remember, free Palestine" on her X account.
According to reports, Disney executives were "shocked" by the post, particularly as it came during the film's promotional period.
Marc Platt allegedly attempted to convince Zegler to remove the post, but she refused and the comment remains on her account to this day.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
Zegler had previously sparked controversy with other political statements, including a post following Donald Trump's election victory.
She wrote "F*** Donald Trump" and "May Trump supporters... never know peace", which reportedly led Disney to hire a social media specialist to vet her posts.
The actress had also criticised the original 1937 Snow White film, calling it "dated" and saying the prince "literally stalks" the princess.
She admitted she was "scared of the original version" and had only watched it once.
The film opened to a disappointing $43 million domestically, with a worldwide total of $87 million in its first weekend.
This falls significantly short of expectations for the $270 million production, which Disney had hoped would be a major box office success.
Despite the underwhelming figures, Snow White did manage to secure the top spot at the box office during its opening weekend.
Critics have been largely negative about the remake, with the film receiving a 42 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, though audience ratings were more favourable at 74 percent.
Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot had a reportedly frosty relationship due to their political differences

The Variety report claimed that Zegler's Palestine post led to death threats against her co-star Gal Gadot, who is Israeli and has been outspoken in support of her home country.
Disney reportedly had to pay for additional security for Gadot and her family as a result.
Sources have suggested the two actresses had a "frosty relationship" behind the scenes and had no contact when cameras weren't rolling.
Public reaction to Jonah's comments has been mixed, with some social media users supporting his stance on professional responsibility.

Others criticised him for blaming Zegler for the film's performance, calling his claims "completely ridiculous" and "delusional".
Another suggested other factors were responsible for the film's performance, including "remake fatigue" and the fact that "movies are tanking in general".
Neither Zegler nor Disney has publicly commented on Jonah Platt's remarks.
