Zoe Ball has publicly endorsed Paddy McGuinness on social media after he was unveiled as one of the new presenters in BBC Radio 2's Sunday schedule.
McGuinness, 50, has been confirmed as the new BBC Radio 2 host of Sunday’s 11am to 1pm slot from June, being given his very own show to front.
The announcement came on Tuesday, with the former Top Gear host’s casting on the show sparking floods of backlash.
Despite the furore, Ball, 53, took to social media to express her approval of McGuinness’ new gig, sharing a promotional snap and writing: “Welcome. Bolton Massive."
The comedian isn’t new to radio presenting after filling in for Rylan Clark recently on Saturday afternoons. He also fronted two shows over the Easter weekend.
“I’ve loved keeping Rylan’s seat warm on Saturday afternoons and returning to the airwaves over Easter,” McGuinness stated.

“To be given my very own regular show on the legendary Radio 2 is a dream come true.”
However, some critical listeners were disappointed by the station’s choice of host, with many harshly calling the actor’s involvement in anything the “kiss of death”.
It comes as several of McGuinness’ recent projects have been axed, such as Top Gear, A Question of Sport and I Can See Your Voice.
“That's the kiss of death for the show then,” one skeptic responded to the news on X.

Another penned: “No, no, no. Paddy McGuinness has some dirt on someone on the BBC for sure. BBC Radio 2 you have lost all sense.”
“@BBCRadio2 has hit the self-destruct button!” another commented, while a fourth shared: “Oh no.!!He's ruined everything he's had contact with...”
“Please no, not Paddy McGuinness!! He ruined A Question of Sport and I certainly won't be listening to him on Radio 2,” someone else pleaded.
Another echoed this, writing: “Paddy McGuinness almost killed off Too Hear and Question of Sport....so I don't see much future for the Sunday morning show....feel sorry for Michael Ball as I think he's worth listening to on the radio.....” (sic)
However, not everyone shared the negative view, with some supporting McGuinness' radio show debut.
