The Poor Things actress was nominated for five Oscars during Sunday’s nominations

Oscars viewers were left outraged on Sunday night after they felt Lily Gladstone was “robbed” of winning Best Actress for her role in Killers of the Flower Moon – leaving Emma Stone to take home the win for her role in Poor Things.

Stone previously won the lead actress Oscar for her role in La La Land back in 2017, and has also previously received nominations for supporting actress for “Birdman” and “The Favourite”.

Poor Things follows Bella Baxter (played by Stone), a distressed pregnant woman who commits suicide and is brought back to life with the brain of her unborn fetus - mimicking the phases of growing up, from her most primitive stage to full adulthood.

Whilst the other nominees and some fans were thrilled for Stone, many thought it was Gladstone who deserved the win more.

Gladstone made history as the first ever Native woman of American descent to be nominated in the Best Actress category.

The 37-year-old plays Mollie Burkhart and follows the story of real love crossing path with unspeakable betrayal as she tries to save her community – Osage Nation – from a spree of murders fuelled by oil and greed.

Taking to social media to express their outrage that Stone swooped up the Oscar, one annoyed viewer penned: “LILY GLADSTONE ROBBED.”

“Lily Gladstone was robbed she was my best actress for Killers of the Flower Moon,” another added before a third echoed: “Yeah they robbed Lily blind.”

Another noted: “Lily was definitely robbed. This was the part of the movie where I was like, give her the Oscar now!

“Tonight, we saw that beautiful performance by the Osage tribe and then the Academy played in our faces and snubbed Lily. I don't like it!”

A fifth exclaimed: “Happy I didn't watch the #Oscars live because what a pathetic line-up of winners. For me, Easy A and La La Land will always be Emma Stone's best acting performances. Lily Gladstone was ROBBED this year.”

“It's VERY INTERESTING that Best Actress is the ONLY category that deviated from the awards season pattern. Lily was robbed,” another said. (sic)

As Stone made her way to the stage, she suffered a awkward wardrobe malfunction and quickly acknowledged that her dress had broken during her emotional acceptance speech.

“Oh, boy. My dress is broken. I think it happened during I’m Just Ken. I’m pretty sure. Oh, boy, this is really – this is really overwhelming. Sorry. I’m… okay, my voice is also a little gone. Whatever.

“The other night, I was panicking, as you can kind of see, happens a lot – that maybe something like this could happen and Yorgos [Lanthimos] said yo me ‘Please take yourself out of it’.

“And he was right, because it’s not about me. It’s about a team that came together to make something greater than the sum of its parts. Thank you for the gift of a lifetime in Bella Baxter.”
