The theatre world's most prestigious event is underway this evening as stars gather for the ceremony

Some of the biggest names in the industry have arrived at the Royal Albert Hall with Billy Porter leading the way for the name of fashion.

This year marks a significant milestone as the ceremony celebrates its 40th anniversary since celebrated actor Sir Laurence Olivier gave his name to the awards in 1984.

The event honours the best of British theatre from the past 12 months, with a particularly star-studded lineup this year.

Considered the highest honour in British theatre, the Olivier Awards welcomes the crème de la crème of the theatre world to celebrate in style under the iconic venue's roof.

The red carpet has been transformed into a glamorous showcase of fashion as Hollywood and theatre royalty arrive at the ceremony.

Porter donned a brown and black velvet suit, paired with a neck accessory and black boots – alongside the main event of the outfit, the leather hat.

Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki also stunned on the carpet as she showed off her flowing white draped gown that turned heads at the Kensington venue.

Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett opted for a striking red and navy dress, complemented with dark-rimmed sunglasses.

Fresh from his recent Oscar triumph, Best Actor nominee Adrien Brody arrived with his wife Georgina Chapman, appearing to shield his nerves ahead of the ceremony.

Other notable attendees include Lesley Manville, John Lithgow, Imelda Staunton and Meera Syal, all dressed impeccably for the occasion.

The competition for Best Actor is particularly fierce this year, with Hollywood veterans dominating the category.

Adrien Brody received his nomination for "The Fear Of 13" at the Donmar Warehouse, based on Nick Yarrow's memoir about being incarcerated on death row.

His nod comes just days after winning his second Best Actor Oscar for "The Brutalist" last month.

John Lithgow is recognised for his portrayal of Roald Dahl in "Giant", which examines the author's controversial views.

The category also features Billy Crudup for "Harry Clarke", Paapa Essiedu for "Death Of England: Delroy", and Mark Strong for "Oedipus".

The Best Actress categories are equally competitive, with celebrated performers vying for recognition.
