Oasis are no longer the singers of the biggest-selling single never to reach number one in the UK charts, it's been confirmed.
Wonderwall, the classic 1995 tune performed by the Gallagher brothers and their bandmates, has now been overtaken by a single from US rock group, The Killers.
Two decades on from its release, The Killers toe-tapper Mr Brightside has been named as the new biggest-selling single never to reach number one, Official Charts said.
Released 20 years ago this month, the song peaked at a very modest number 10 in the charts but continues to dominate the airwaves to this day.
The Official Charts worked out the feat by combining UK sales and streams to come up with a figure of 5.57 million, which consists of 1.066m sales and 530,340,000 streams.
The band has spoken out on the record, telling the Official Charts: "Thank you so much to all our fans for making Mr Brightside the third biggest song of all time in the UK, and the biggest ever not to have reached number one - not yet at least!

"This Top 10 Award means a lot to us, Mr Brightside has been completely embraced by the British public and we can’t wait to celebrate with you all on the road.
"Thank you for supporting us. See you soon," the group signed off.
The latest figure makes Mr Brightside not only the biggest song never to top the charts, but the third biggest song of all time.
Lead singer Brandon Flowers was given an Official Top 10 award to mark the occasion and celebrate two decades since the single was first released.

Oasis singer Liam Gallagher, who's no stranger to hitting headlines with his social media antics, is yet to publicly address losing the record.
News of Oasis being usurped by The Killers classic has sparked quite a reaction from music lovers.
Reacting to the Official Charts announcement on X, formerly Twitter, one person pleaded: "Never been number 1? UNREAL! We need to get this to CHRISTMAS number 1 in the U.K. 2024. @thekillers please record a festive 20th anniversary version of Brightside with sleigh bells and a new video in dress up like the good ole days."
A second similarly celebrated the achievement: "It’s the UK national anthem!"

However, there were some critics who weren't on-board with the feat.
"I'll be honest and it's most probably an unpopular opinion," one music fan argued. "I wouldn't say Mr Brightside is one of the best songs of all time. I don't hate it, just not for me. #TheKillers."
