The DIY SOS star was lucky to avoid a serious mishap as he gears up for the ballroom

Nick Knowles has taken to Instagram to share a peek behind the scenes of his preparations for this year's Strictly Come Dancing.

The 61-year-old is one of the oldest contestants signed up for the BBC show this year but Knowles is keen not to let his age stand his way of glory.

As a result, Knowles has been hard at work in the gym to try and get his fitness levels up to compete with his fellow cast mates.

It hasn't been revealed which professional dancer will be partnered with Knowles for the series but he's hoping to get a head-start on the physical demands of the ballroom by putting in the hours in the gym.

However, after sharing a clip from the gym on social media, Knowles may want to start taking preparations a bit more seriously.

Knowles can be seen power-walking on a treadmill in the Instagram update before he turns and stumbles, eventually flying off the end of the apparatus after failing to regain his composure.

Luckily for Knowles, he managed to land on his feet and avoid a serious accident, although he acknowledged he was dicing with danger in the accompanying caption.

Knowles saw the funny side as he penned to his 301k followers: "Pre-Strictly fitness training in my local gym - clowning is asking for trouble," followed by a laughing emoji.

The DIY SOS star isn't the only Strictly 2024 star struggling to adapt to the demands of prepping for the dancefloor either.

Singer Wynne Evans took to his own Instagram page last week to jokingly claim he thought he was going to have "a heart attack" after a workout to improve his stamina.

Speaking to the camera, a sweaty and red-faced Evans told his 51.9k followers: "So, trying to get my stamina up for Strictly.

"Running, as per usual thought I was going to have a heart attack. Boiling hot today!

"Did a Susie Chan class - legend. Cheers Susie, this is what a fat man doing one of your classes looks like!"

Similarly to Knowles, BBC viewers won't find out who Evans has been paired up with until the launch show next month.

And another topic surrounding Strictly that remains unknown for now is the result of its investigation into the conduct of its stars following complaints raised by Amanda Abbington last year.

The Sherlock actress claimed to have raised issues with pro dancer Giovanni Pernice as soon as three days into her stint last year and has alleged "threatening and abusive" behaviour on his part.

Pernice has since left the show and vehemently denied all claims made by Abbington.

The Italian dancer faced further scrutiny, however, when former partners including Laura Whitmore came forward with similar complaints.

Elsewhere, Graziano Di Prima was axed from the show after complaints raised about his conduct prompted the BBC to review footage which showed him "kicking" partner Zara McDermott last year.

The BBC came under fire for announcing the line-up for the 2024 series before the outcome of the investigation was published but it's defended its cast ahead of the launch date.
