Next James Bond: Henry Cavill 'most likely' to replace Daniel Craig as new data hints at twist in race
PA/GETTY
A new study has suggested the Superman star could soon be stepping into 007's tux
Henry Cavill is now the "most likely" actor to take on the role of James Bond after Daniel Craig, according to a new study.
Craig's successor remains a mystery at the time of writing after Barbara Broccoli and Bond bosses rubbished reports that Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been offered the part earlier this year.
Taylor-Johnson has spoken out about the rumours before, dodging any concrete commitment to the role while the likes of Cavill, James Norton, Idris Elba, Theo James, Damson Idris and several others have been tipped for the part.
The Kick-Ass star remains a frontrunner with bookmakers to eventually land the leading role as the iconic spy but it may not be the foregone conclusion some think it is.
Not only was Taylor-Johnson "ruled out" of the race to replace Craig according to an AI study earlier this month, but it seems a study into online trends also hinder his chances.
According to analysis from Betway Casino, Cavill is the preferred actor to take on the part after an examination of several pieces of data.

The bookmakers "analysed the number of Google searches, the number of articles, article engagement and Reddit mentions for 31 potential actors" so it could see who had "generated the most online hype and is therefore most likely to play the role".
Cavill came out on top as "the internet’s favourite person to play the next Bond" as he racked up the highest Google search volume for the term "Henry Cavill Bond".
There was an average monthly search volume of 5,400 for "Henry Cavill Bond" in the past year, surpassing the 1,700 for Taylor-Johnson.
Betway Casino has claimed Cavill "also has the most Reddit mentions discussing the likelihood of him playing the role, at 120 overall from the threads analysed".
Next James Bond: Daniel Craig quit the role of 007 way back in 2019
PAAccording to the study, Taylor-Johnson is the second most likely for the part with the highest number of articles mentioning the actor playing Bond (1,606) and the highest article engagement (138,951) - although these figures were undoubtedly inflated by the reports that he'd already bagged the role earlier this year.
Betway Casino adds: "Taking the third position is Idris Elba, well-known for his starring role in BBC’s Luther, with a significant 93 Reddit mentions where users discuss the likelihood of the actor playing 007."
Fourth most likely went to Tom Hardy while Oppenheimer star and Oscar winner Cillian Murphy is said to be the fifth most likely.
For now, however, 007 fans will have to wait to see if Cavill will indeed back up the findings of the study.
Whoever does bag the part will undoubtedly be paired opposite an actress in the iconic "Bond Girl" role.
Sydney Sweeney has long been tipped as the star who's favourite for the part with bookmakers but much like Taylor-Johnson, new data has suggested she may miss out.

Neil Roarty, Content Lead at Coin Poker, told GB News how data has combined from the likes of ChatGPT, Gemini and Bing AI has suggested she'll be usurped for the role by Killing Eve star Jodie Comer.
He explained: "There are so many candidates who would all make a superb Bond girl, but AI’s selection of Jodie Comer is not only one that massively appeals but also one that makes total sense.
"Comer has shown she is capable of playing a leading lady role, just like she did in Killing Eve as Villanelle.
"Although the likes of Sydney Sweeney, Jenna Ortega, Michelle Keegan, Nicole Coughlan and even Maya Jama were being speculated as potential Bond girls, Comer makes total sense and is certainly an ideal selection from AI."
