Monty Don has taken to social media to pay tribute to his pet dachshund Brenda.

The pooch never tended to accompany her owner on the television and Don often kept his dachshund out of the spotlight.

However, after a photo of Brenda was used in a new article from the Gardeners' World official website, Don addressed the loss of his pet canine.

"Ah lovely picture of Brenda," the horticulturist penned in a tweet. "Much missed."

After spotting his tribute, a number of fans rushed to share their condolences with the Gardeners' World star.

One fan penned in response: "So sweet but never a t.v. star, just a much loved pet."

While a second added to the messages: "Oh bless!"

Elsewhere, another weighed in to praise Brenda's adorable demeanour as they typed: "She’s so cute!"

Brenda was one of two miniature dachshunds he kept at Longmeadow alongside Peggy.

However, he's previously admitted neither of the animals liked to be filmed for the BBC series.

Instead, his two golden retrievers Nel and Ned often join the presenter for scenes in the garden.

As does his Yorkshire Terrier, Patti, who has become a fan-favourite in recent years for scurrying around Don's garden.

Sadly, Don suffered another loss a few years back when another of his beloved pets passed away.

Golden Retriever Nigel used to appear alongside Don during his demos in Longmeadow for years before his death in 2020.

Don took to Instagram back in May 2020 to break the news with his followers.

He penned: "I am very sorry to announce that Nigel has died. To the end he was happy, healthy and his usual calm, lovely self.

"But he was suddenly taken ill and he slipped quietly away with no pain or suffering and is now buried in the garden with lots of tennis balls.

"Rest now old friend. See you in the sweet bye and bye," Don concluded.

Don regularly shares snaps of Nel, Ned and Patti enjoying their time at Longmeadow on his Instagram page.
