The 82-year-old was brutally honest about her health in a recent interview
Miriam Margolyes is no stranger to delivering brutally honest takes on a number of matters in interviews in years gone by.
And this often includes her own problems with the star's self-deprecating humour synonymous with her interviewing style.
However, the Call the Midwife star left fans feeling concerned this week when she revealed she may soon need to use a wheelchair.
Delivering a shocking update about her health, Margolyes has opened up on how her weight has led to her developing "spinal stenosis".
According to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, this "happens when the spaces in the spine narrow and create pressure on the spinal cord and nerve roots".
She told podcast Elizabeth Day on the How to Fail podcast: "The one thing I have not conquered and should have conquered is my weight. I am a blubber mass. I am fat.

"And to be fat and 82 is truly pathetic," she vented. "It’s such a defeat.
"A cream bun, a chocolate, a helping of chopped liver is more important than your health and aesthetic presentation? No, it isn’t more important.
"It’s just greed, lack of discipline, all the things I’m embarrassed by in myself.
"It is a major failure and because of that I’ve got spinal stenosis, I can’t walk, I’m going to be in a wheelchair before I’m much older," the 82-year-old feared.
Continuing her damning verdict on her life choices, Margolyes went on: "I’ve limited my life because of my longing for fudge or chopped liver, cheesecake.
"All these absurdities, I shouldn’t have been so greedy, have been stronger.
"I f**k everything up by greed and I think it’s shameful," she added as Day tried to cut a sympathetic figure for her guest.
Margolyes' comments about her body led to a number of fans rushing to support her, with many feeling personally affected by her brutal honesty.

Replying to a clip of the podcast on Day's Instagram, one fan said: "I felt so sad when she was talking about her body. It just shows how pervasive diet culture is, all that talk of shame and greed.
"Miriam is amazing, such a great person and I admire her so much for her DGAF attitude yet she seems really sad about her weight."
While another echoed: "I loved this interview. Her honesty is so refreshing. It hurt me when she talked so brutally about her body and how she felt about it."
