Love Island star Maura Higgins made a striking appearance at the F1 75 Live event at The O2 Arena in London on Tuesday – days after her split with Pete Wicks.
At the beginning of the month, it was reported that Higgins and Wicks had called time on their short romance after keeping it under wraps for months.
A source confirmed they were better off as friends after a series of “explosive” rows and told the MailOnline: “Maura and Pete have decided to call off their romance.
“There have been a few clashes, and it was eventually agreed they were better off as friends. Those closest to them know it's been a very on-and-off relationship, which is why they were so resistant to go public in the first place. They remain close and share a deep connection.”
A friend added: “You never know with Maura and Pete, the attraction is so strong that you wouldn't rule out a reunion at some point – even in the short term.”
However, things seemed to have turned sour for the pair after she made a dig about their time together and claimed Wicks had cheated.

When asked about Wicks’ whereabouts during her Valentine's celebration at London hotspot Sheesh, Higgins suggested he was "probably cheating".
The Irish reality TV star claimed she ended their relationship after discovering messages to other women on his phone.
Since the claims, Wicks’ friends have spoken out and firmly denied the accusations and told MailOnline: “The truth is Pete did nothing wrong. He did not cheat.
"The messages were simply innocent communication with friends and colleagues - he often messages friends of the same sex but it wasn't cheating.”

"He has been open and honest about errors made in his past and how he struggles to commit in relationships.
"To continue the same narrative when he's now a better man is very unfair. It's not the same old Pete, he has worked really hard to mature and better himself over the years.”
Last night, Higgins showed off her striking new look during the F175 Live event at the O2 – sending a clear message to her ex.
The 34-year-old reality TV star turned heads in a braless black turtleneck top that showcased her figure.
She paired the daring top with eye-catching red and black patterned trousers and heels, sporting a short bob hairstyle, complete with a heavy fringe.
Despite the split, the source revealed Pete "still adores her and the last thing he wants to do is publicly or privately trash her."
