Mark Dolan shares 'best thing' about living in Britain as he describes his 'perfect day'

In the first of a new series, Mark Dolan describes how he would spend his 'perfect day'
My perfect day would start with a trip to my local greasy spoon café – which is called Jenny’s – for a full English breakfast with my wife and two sons.
I would then walk off the calories in Hampstead Heath, taking a mid-morning break for tea and scones at Kenwood House, which is a lovely visitor attraction in the Heath.
It’s got its own art gallery, café and stunning views. It was gifted to London by the owner of Guinness in 1927.
I would then pop around to my mother’s to water her plants, have another cup of tea and discuss the big political issues of the day.
My mum has always loved politics and was the first person that got me into watching news on TV.
My father has sadly passed, so I would visit his grave, to have a chat with the big man.
By this time I'm getting peckish. So I would gather up all of my favourite work colleagues for lunch on the rooftop of Soho House in central London. I hope someone else is paying for all of this by the way!

My approach to work has always been that my colleagues are my friends.
Which is why my perfect day would involve socialising with them at some point.
You form a special bond with people when you are under pressure and embarking on a collective endeavour. Work is very bonding.
Mid-afternoon would involve a walk around some Central London parks and into Oxford Street for a bit of retail therapy.
I like John Lewis, Selfridges and TK Maxx. A visit to TK is always intoxicating.
You never know what treasure you are going to unearth. My love of shopping is also something I've inherited from my mother, though I've become a master at trying stuff on and putting it back on the hanger.
I’m the king of window shopping. That's my superpower, which I gained after a couple of financial crises.
Then a trip to the Spurs stadium to watch Tottenham score a hatful of goals, ideally against Arsenal.
After all, this is my perfect day. And then I would like to get back to my place for a gathering of my closest friends and family.
There would be ice-cold mini-kegs of beer, an unlimited supply of slow-cooked beef, fine wine, cocktails, finishing off the night with some karaoke.
If there's time during the day, I’ll also watch my favourite comedy film which is The Return of the Pink Panther starring Peter Sellers. He was a genius and there are scenes in that movie that never fail to make me laugh.
I need to pop into a pub at some point too; one of the best things about living in this country.

I grew up with a lifelong love of radio, so there'll be plenty of audio in my day as well – podcasts, as well as live radio.
I'm one of those people who can’t be on my own for a second without some kind of stimulation.
If I've got to tidy up or do the ironing, I will listen to something.
And the soundtrack to my day is easy – Elton John. I’ve been a huge fan since I was about 11.
The range of his music is extraordinary and I will never get tired of hearing his albums.
My day ends tucked up in bed, with a calm podcast in one ear, looking forward to what adventures the next day has to bring.
