The One Direction star died earlier this week after falling from his third-floor hotel room balcony

Liam Payne’s fans have come together since the star's death and set up a GoFundMe page for a charity – The Trussell Trust – which was close to the star's heart.

The One Direction singer was visiting Argentina when he died, with Alberto Crescenti, the city's ambulance service provider spokesman issuing a statement shortly after his death.

It read: “The alarm was raised at 5:04pm local time saying a person was lying in an internal patio at Casa Sur. At 5:11pm an ambulance arrived and the man was certified dead.

“Our role was to head there quickly, give medical attention, and try to resuscitate him, but his injuries were incompatible with life.

“Based on what the team saw, there was apparently a cranial fracture and extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death.”

"Afterwards we found out he had been a famous singer. Unfortunately, the injuries he had suffered as a result of the fall proved to be fatal. There was no possibility of resuscitating him."

His family, friends and fans have been left heartbroken over the news, with one fan setting up a GoFundMe page in honour of the singer.

Payne often worked with the charity to help tackle poverty and supports 1,400 food banks across the country.

Laurel Melsom launched the fundraiser with a plea to those who loved Payne's work, with the overview reading: “For any fans who want to leave a donation in Liam’s memory, especially if they’re unable to make it to any memorial to leave flowers etc.

“Liam was a key donor to The Trussell Trust and would love to continue this on."

Payne often spoke about his reasons for supporting the organisation and said in 2020: "It’s not right that anyone in our country is unable to afford food. Food banks do incredible work to help the people most in need of support."

The Trussell Trust paid tribute to Liam for his "compassion and kindness" with Chief Executive Emma Revie speaking out after his death: “We are extremely saddened by the news of Liam Payne’s death.

“Over the last four years, Liam was a generous supporter of Trussell and our community of food banks, not only funding the provision of more than 360,000 meals during Covid but also often joining us in calling for the solutions required to end the need for emergency food.

"We greatly appreciate the compassion and kindness he always showed to people facing hunger and hardship. His death is a very tragic loss, and our thoughts are with his loved ones.”

The star continued to help those in need right up until his death and gave away £10,000 in one night after reading heartbreaking stories on GoFundMe.

He gave £2,300 to help support Jack in the US, who was a 28-year-old suffering from cancer, £3,833 to help four-year-old Macy Shepard, who was diagnosed with a rare tumour on her kidney and spent £770 to contribute to a girl’s medical bills after she was injured in a school shooting in America.

His final donation was £2,223 to help stroke victim Kailyn, who is just four years old.
