The audience member said she felt like a 'sitting deaf duck' when Carr targeted her with jokes

Comedy fans have jumped to Jimmy Carr’s defence after a recent audience member hit out at his jokes, stating she was “absolutely insulted”.

Carly Ahlen, who was left profoundly deaf after a stint in the army, said she felt like a “sitting deaf duck,” when the comedian, 51, poked fun at her during a show in his typical mocking approach to live comedy.

Ahlen, from Kent, claimed Carr made “vile” jokes about the deaf community after he picked up on the fact she was wearing a beret and quizzed her as to why.

She told The Mirror: "I used my right hand to lift my beret, exposing my hearing aid. I hoped he was at least a decent guy and would move on, knowing I was deaf.

"It didn't work. It had the opposite effect as I was like a sitting deaf duck now.”

The 44-year-old went on to say she was looking at her phone during the show because she was using a transcribing app so she knew what Carr was saying, which led to him addressing her again.

He made another quip at the audience member, asking if she was “calling for backup from the French Resistance".

Carr is notorious for making digs at those attending his shows and enjoys “roasting” people. Responding to the complaints from Ahlen, a flock of fans took to social media to defend the comedian.

“Has she never heard of Jimmy Carr before?!” one person asked on X, formerly Twitter.

“You book tickets to see Jimmy Carr you know whats going to happen. If you dont like his style of humour then dont go simple as that. 'Absolutely' attention seeking from this woman,” another argued.

A third penned: “Perhaps sitting in the front row of a Jimmy Carr stand-up event was a poor choice for anyone easily offended.”

“Worlds gone soft,” someone else added while another fumed: “Goes and watches a comedian who’s known for jokes taking the p*** out of ppl gets offended when the jokes about her typical.”

“Have a laugh!! You chose to go to a jimmy Carr show. If you haven’t been before then you should have done your research,” someone else advised.

Some agreed with Ahlen though, with one writing: "Jimmy Carr is a t***er of the highest order." (sic)
