The former Tottenham and Newcastle star was axed from the broadcaster earlier this week

Jermaine Jenas has slammed BBC bosses for making him a “fall guy” for a series of recent scandals at the broadcaster, following his sacking earlier this week.

The 41-year-old was given the chop from the company on Monday after it was revealed that he had been sending inappropriate text messages to two female members of staff.

He claimed that he has been made a scapegoat for the broadcaster following recent scandals involving the BBC - such as the fall of newsreader Huw Edwards and the bullying claims at Strictly Come Dancing.

Speaking to The Sun, he said: “I think everyone has seen what's been going on at the BBC recently with Huw Edwards and Strictly. I just don't think I should be the one to be the fall guy. I think it sums up where they are at right now.

“I think they clearly don’t know what to do, by the looks of it, because, like I said, how the situation was handled didn’t feel great.”

Jenas is now looking to sue his former employer over the handling of his sacking and how confidential information about him was made public.

He said: “That is something that my lawyers are going to be looking at, and that they themselves — the BBC — need to look into as well for everybody’s protection going forwards.

“But my head is frazzled. I am focused purely on my family and keeping my kids protected, and so it’s in the hands of my lawyers.”

The former Tottenham and Newcastle star said that senior staff at the cooperation had been discussing his dismissal before he was told. He said that whilst the BBC told staff about his dismissal in an internal email, the sports department had been told beforehand.

In an interview with TalkSport on Friday he said the situation had left him “fuming”.

Jenas said that he asked the BBC if he could reach out and apologise to the woman he sent unsolicited messages to, but was blocked from doing so.

He said because of “the legal process”, he was prohibited from doing so, though stressed to the newspaper that he is truly sorry for his actions.

“I didn’t get the opportunity to say sorry to them at that particular point when I really wanted to apologise.

“I really want to apologise from the bottom of my heart in terms of what I’ve put them through.”

Jenas has admitted his wife, Ellie, is 'raging', who is believed to have kicked him out of the bedroom while the saga plays out, with the couple fighting to keep their marriage alive following the scandal.
