Jeremy Clarkson has issued a scathing response after the official Who Wants To Be A Millionaire social media account suggested he "wasn't much help" to a contestant during Sunday night's show.
The veteran presenter took exception to a post on X (formerly Twitter) that downplayed his contribution during a question about Dijon, France.
The post from the show's official account read: "Despite getting a speeding ticket in Dijon, @JeremyClarkson wasn't much help on this question, so over to #PhoneAFriend #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire."
Clarkson, clearly irritated by the suggestion, fired back with an indignant tweet: "What do you mean I wasn't much help?!?!?!!!"

The question that sparked the controversy came when contestant Matthew Trantor was asked: "Dijon is the capital of which historic French region?"
The £64,000 question offered four possible answers: Normandy, Brittany, Limousin and Burgundy.
When Trantor admitted he didn't know the answer, he turned to Clarkson for help.
The presenter recalled getting his "fastest ever speeding ticket" in Dijon, but couldn't remember exactly where it was located.

ITVHowever, Clarkson did confidently eliminate two options, telling Trantor it was "100 percent not in Normandy or Brittany" as he knows those regions "very well".
This effectively turned the question into a 50/50 choice between Limousin and Burgundy.
After using his Phone A Friend, Trantor found his pal Josh was unable to help with the answer.
He then turned to Ask The Audience, with 55 percent suggesting Burgundy and 40 percent opting for Limousin.
Despite having the option to walk away with £32,000, which Trantor acknowledged was "a nice amount of money", he decided to play on.
He confidently selected Burgundy as his final answer.
It proved to be the correct choice, allowing him to progress to the next stage.
Trantor ultimately walked away with £64,000 after deciding not to risk his winnings on a literature question about words coined by children's authors.

Clarkson's frustrated response to being labelled "not much help" resonated with many viewers.
One supportive fan replied: "You said what you knew. That's fair enough, because nobody knows everything."
Others on social media pointed out that the question was relatively straightforward for some viewers.
"Even I got that one and no speeding ticket was required," wrote one person on X.
Another commented: "I was shouting 'it's f***ing Burgundy' at the TV."
