The presenter is famed for his lengthy Top Gear and The Grand Tour stints

Jeremy Clarkson has returned to his roots by reportedly filming for a car show just months after bidding farewell to The Grand Tour.

Clarkson, 64, is best-known for his motoring expertise after decades of fronting BBC's Top Gear and later The Grand Tour, and has now "secretly" taken part in the new series of Car SOS.

Featuring as a guest, the presenter was reportedly persuaded by bosses on the long-running show to take part in an episode.

The Daily Star reports the Clarkson's Farm star was brought in to help restore a Land Rover Discovery Series 1 for a deserving guest.

Host Tim Shaw told the publication: "Jeremy was happy for us to bring a full coach load of people.

"I mean, think about it – 60 strangers turning up at your property!"

He continued: "We spent about half-an-hour with Jeremy and he was warm, friendly, and, of course, typically sarcastic and funny.

"He genuinely cared about the wellbeing of both the team and, most importantly, the car's owner."

Clarkson seems to be keeping himself busy in all areas, having recently shared some candid updates about his health after undergoing heart surgery last year.

The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire host now has two grandchildren, with his daughter Emily Clarkson having recently given birth to her second daughter.

In a sweet confession, Clarkson explained earlier this month his desire to continue being a grandfather for as long as possible has motivated him to focus on his health.

"I'm not going to dwell on the joys of being a grandparent because what can be said about it has already been said," he wrote in a recent Sunday Times column.

"But I have decided it's so wonderful I want it to go on for as long as is humanly possible," he added.

Detailing his health plans, he continued: "Which means I must do everything in my power to not die.

"(But) I dislike discomfort, loathe bicycles and find gyms and everyone in them weird."

After expressing his dislike for most exercise, the Grand Tour star shared an unexpected hobby: "I employed the services of a local girl who explained it had something to do with an activity called Pilates.

"I decided I'd give it a bash. And so, on day one, she made me lie down on the table top with my feet on a sort of crossmember and, for a whole hour, breathe in through my nose and then out of my mouth.

"I found this very easy and decided I’d have another lesson the very next day."

Pilates has become somewhat of a trend online, but Clarkson admitted: "I'm not unenjoying it."

The new series of Car SOS starts on March 13 at 8pm on National Geographic.
