Jeremy Clarkson has unleashed a no-holds-barred assessment of new research emerging from the government-funded body, Historic England.
The Clarkson's Farm star is no stranger to sharing his unfiltered takes on modern-day matters - with cultural appropriation and "backward" council red tape regulations in the firing line of late.
Now, it's the state of Britain's roads that has irked Clarkson after he learned just how much much government money had been put into Historic England research.
According to the 63-year-old, the latest research suggests "people who live near historical sites are happier than those who don’t".
However, Clarkson has branded the findings as "b******s" and insisted the public would be happier if the money used to fund research like this was put towards practical issues - such as fixing Britain's potholes.
"Historic England has been working with the Treasury to calculate what the financial benefit of increased happiness might be. And, yup, they’ve come up with a number. Ready? Here goes..." Clarkson teased in his latest column.

He continued: "If you live near a historic site, the happiness and improved quality of life that results equates to increased spending of £515 a year. We are paying them to produce guff like this."
Clarkson went on to rip apart the governmental findings as he brutally assessed: "They can’t mend the roads or fit our submarines with a missile that actually works, but they can sit around in wellness juice bars all day deciding that because someone lives near Castle Howard, they’re going to spend £515 a year more than if they didn’t."
The Grand Tour star - who recently left the Amazon series alongside Richard Hammond and James May - didn't stop there, however, as he pointed out Historic England receives approximately £87 million from the government.
Clarkson pondered if that money "could be better spent" elsewhere and delivered a suggestion of his own.

GETTY"I’ve just done a quick bit of maths and it seems that £87 million would be enough to repair nearly two million potholes," he claimed.
"And which would make you happier: that? Or a slightly dusty recollection in your head that you live quite near the Severn Valley railway?"
Clarkson isn't the only former Top Gear star in recent weeks to rip into the state of Britain's roads either.
Quentin Willson told GB News how "we can't carry on like this" as potholes continue to plague streets up and down the country.

Willson said: "We’ve had decades of under-investment, and a culture of not putting road transport first.
"Only recently have the government woken up to the fact that there are 37 million drivers who have had enough.
"For years, policy was centred around getting voters out of cars and onto public transport and 'active travel'.
"The modal shift to public transport hasn’t happened, and our crumbling roads are a legacy of these previous policies."
