The Doctor Who, Emmerdale and Victoria star is expecting her first child

Jenna Coleman, 38, revealed she is pregnant after cradling her large baby bump whilst attending the exhibition Imaginary Conversations: An ERDEM Collection Inspired by Duchess Deborah at Chatsworth House on Wednesday night.

Before her time on Doctor Who, Coleman was perhaps best known for portraying Jasmine Thomas in Emmerdale and has also appeared in Waterloo Road as Lindsay James, the Marvel feature film Captain America: The First Avenger as Connie and the 2012 miniseries Titanic as Annie Desmond.

The star was snapped last night wearing a long floral dress with a black waistband that pulled in at her waist, highlighting the bump and leaving her to place her hands underneath it.

Her pregnancy announcement comes after she was spotted with a ring on her wedding finger six months ago, pictured taking a walk with her director boyfriend Jamie Childs, 35.

However, during the event last night, she was seen without the ring on her hand.

The announcement was made at the social event, with Coleman leaving it off her social media page and sharing images of the exhibition instead.

Whilst Coleman will be thrilled to start a family, back in 2019 she shared with Harpers Bazaar that she didn't feel any pressure to do so and was keen to see more of the world first.

She said: "Half of my friends have babies, and half don’t, so it doesn’t feel like a pressure. I want to take my time. There’s a whole lot more of the world for me to see first. I’d love to have children one day. But not nine of them. I can tell you that as a fact."

Coleman has also previously joked that she has had plenty of practice with labour after playing Queen Victoria - who had nine children - in the ITV series.

Speaking on the Jonathan Ross Show, she explained that she had started to watch One Born Every Minute after "running out of noises" to use.

She explained: "I try to [change it up]… I’ve just given birth to the seventh child now. And there is still no pain relief as of yet either [in the era the show is set].

"To be honest, I find if I build up adrenaline and then don’t think about it and then watch it back, I think I sounded like a sheep on one thing that I saw back before.

"I’d just have loads of caffeine and then get really built up and then I’m sure one day maybe if I ever give birth I’ll realise I was totally wrong."

Coleman and Childs met whilst filming for the Netflix series The Sandman which is an adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s comic book series, in which she played Johanna Constantine.

Some of the episodes in the season were directed by her partner, who is now at the helm of the upcoming and highly anticipated second season.

Coleman famously keeps her relationships private and has never spoken publicly about her romance with Childs.
