The comedian woke up to the news this morning that Donald Trump is poised for a return to the White House

Jason Manford has left some of his fans and many on X divided after he slammed Donald Trump's “psychopath” speech ahead of the final votes being counted.

Trump declared victory in the 2024 US presidential election prior to the official verdict, hailing it as a "magnificent victory for the American people".

Speaking to overjoyed supporters in Florida, the former president claimed he had won an "unprecedented and powerful mandate".

Trump told the crowd: "I believe this was the greatest political movement of all time.

"We have a country that needs help very badly,” before vowing to "make America great again", promising to seal borders and allow people to enter legally.

Trump's campaign secured pivotal wins in key swing states, including Georgia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Wisconsin.

At the time of his speech, he held 266 electoral college votes to Democratic rival Kamala Harris's 214, according to projections.

Harris did not address her supporters gathered at Howard University, leaving her campaign co-chair, Cedric Richmond, to tell the crowd: "We will continue overnight to fight to make sure every vote is counted".

Trump promised to "help our country heal" and usher in a "golden age of America". He vowed to fix borders and address critical issues facing the nation.

His running mate, JD Vance, described Trump's campaign as "the greatest political comeback" in American history, adding: "I appreciate you allowing me to join you on this incredible journey".

Unhappy with the news of Trump's imminent win, comedian Manford took to his X account to share his disdain and penned: “Urgh I knew I’d wake up this morning to that psychopath being declared president! What is wrong with people! God help us all.

Followers of the comedian were quick to respond to his post, as one simply replied and penned: “Cry more Jason.”

Another slammed: “You are what's wrong with people, Jason. You and your fellow luvvies, meedya darlings, nano-celebrities and #influencerswho have an over-inflated view of their own relevance and influence. Ain't democracy great!..

"Yes, Jason millions of Americans must be wrong and you must be right,” someone else expressed before another added: “Can’t believe people didn’t listen to all those celebrities, don’t they know that actors and comedy know what’s best for the oiks.”

However, not all of Manford’s followers disagreed with what he said, as one expressed: ”I still had hope but was completely devastated when I switched on the news.

“Listening to his speech is making me feel ill. I genuinely fear for the future, sanity and truth have gone.”

Another agreed: “Every American who didn't want him voted in (especially women) have lost so many rights. I feel so bad for them.” (sic)

Manford is far from the only high-profile British public figure who's hit out at the news that Trump is poised to return to the White House.

Carol Vorderman came under fire for an "embarrassing" rant about the projected results after she pleaded: "God help America".

Elsewhere, Channel 4's Emily Maitlis came under fire for her conduct when presenting the channel's election coverage.
