The Heart Radio presenter's wife Sophie has spoken out for the first time since he went public with his diagnosis

Heart Radio presenter Jamie Theakston's wife Sophie Siegel has issued a defiant statement in light of her husband going public with his cancer diagnosis.

On Tuesday, Theakston revealed he had been diagnosed with stage 1 laryngeal cancer following a recent operation to remove a lesion from his vocal cords.

Theakston wrote to his Instagram followers: "So - I have cancer - but cancer doesn't have me. The prognosis is very positive and I'm hoping to be back with you in October."

The broadcaster, known for his positive outlook, added: "Until then I've been told to give my voice a rest and leave you in the mostly capable hands of JK and Amanda." He expressed gratitude to his colleagues at Global, the parent company of Heart, for their "unbelievably supportive" response.

Theakston's announcement came after listeners had previously noticed changes in his voice, prompting him to seek medical attention.

Siegel, Theakston's wife, has broken her silence following her husband's cancer diagnosis, taking to social media to show her solidarity.

She reposted Theakston's message alongside the poignant words: "My man #wegotthis". Siegel also expressed gratitude to Holden, Theakston's co-host on Heart Radio, by sharing her supportive post with a series of heart emojis.

Holden, 53, addressed the situation on her own Instagram on Tuesday, saying: "Jamie. We love and miss you and look forward to seeing you very soon. With @sophietheakstonjewellery, your gorgeous boys, Us and the entire nation with you.. YOU WILL GET THROUGH THIS ."

Holden also issued a statement live on-air to Heart listeners on Tuesday morning.

Siegel and Theakston have been married since 2007, after meeting at the Oscars in 2005. The couple share two children, Sidney, 16, and Kit, 15.

Siegel, who works as a jewellery designer, has previously praised Jamie's support in balancing their family life.

In an interview, she said: "I have a very considerate and generally lovely husband who is usually home by lunchtime after a VERY early start, and he is brilliant at helping with school runs and sports matches if I have something that means I can't do it."

The Theakstons tend to keep their children out of the spotlight, but the Heart presenter has occasionally shared glimpses of family holidays on social media.

As well as Holden and Siegel, Theakston has been inundated with several supportive messages from other famous faces.

In response to his initial statement, This Morning star Sian Welby commented: "If anyone can get through this it’s you. Sending all the positive vibes your way."
