The 60-year-old will be back on screens very soon

James May has been inundated with excitable comments from fans after Amazon dropped an all-new trailer for his upcoming series, James May: Our Man In India.

The former Top Gear star's latest show will arrive on January 5 and a first look at the series has arrived a week after it was confirmed he, Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond would be leaving the hugely popular The Grand Tour.

May, Clarkson and Hammond wrapped filming on their final special for the motoring show back in October after the trio had jetted off to Zimbabwe.

Amazon has confirmed a Grand Tour special set in Mauritania will air in early-2024 with the Zimbabwe special dropping later in the year.

But before either of those specials arrive, fans will be able to see May navigate his way around India in the latest instalment of the Our Man In franchise.

May took to X, formerly Twitter, to share the trailer with his fans as he wrote alongside the clip: "On January 5th you will be able to watch me in India on @primevideouk - and you should*. Here is the ‘trailer’. *Please."

In the promo, May heads on a 3,000-mile road trip exploring some of the country's most picturesque locations while participating in a number of traditional activities such as head massages and taking part in the Holi celebrations.

Amazon released a synopsis for the show to coincide with the trailer's release which reads: "James May takes on his greatest adventure yet: a 3,000-mile coast-to-coast epic across India, the most populous – and perhaps most extraordinary – country in the world.

"Starting by the Arabian Sea and finishing at the Bay of Bengal, his journey will encompass incredible landscapes, from the baking deserts of Rajasthan to the dramatic Himalayan foothills, and explore environments as diverse as the mangrove forests of the Sundarbans, through to the global megacities of Mumbai, Delhi, and Kolkata."

After he shared the trailer on social media, fans rushed to congratulate the presenter as they expressed their joy at seeing his return to screens.

"I think this one is going to be very special. It looks glorious from the trailer," one of May's followers said.

While a second added: "Exceptionally excited about this one. I lived in Delhi for 18 months in my 30’s and travelled around loads of this incredible country. The best way I can describe living in India is ‘terribrilliant’."

Another weighed in: "I’ve been waiting for so long, finally! I’m so happy. Only month away. Best travel destination… in the world."

And a fourth echoed: "I’m hoping that it premieres on Prime US the same time. Love this series." (sic)

News of May's new series will undoubtedly be welcome news to Grand Tour fans who were "heartbroken" to learn the iconic trio wouldn't be back for more specials after 2024.

And May isn't the only one of the three to have shared exciting news about the future of one of their own shows recently.

Clarkson shared an "important announcement" about the future of Clarkson's Farm ahead of the third season's premiere next year.

Clarkson, Kaleb Cooper, Lisa Hogan and the rest of the Diddly Squat "family" will return for a fourth season as well, despite the former Top Gear star openly admitting he'd contemplated selling the farm previously.
