James Bond fans could face a three-year wait for the next 007 film, according to veteran director Martin Campbell, 81.
The filmmaker, who helmed both Casino Royale and GoldenEye, has revealed tensions between Eon Productions and Amazon are contributing to the significant delay.
Campbell introduced audiences to two Bond actors in Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig with their respective critically-acclaimed debut films.
Now, the 81-year-old has shared his insight on the uncertain future of the iconic franchise following Amazon's acquisition of MGM, which previously oversaw the Bond franchise.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
"I think it'll be two years away, three years away," Campbell revealed to Men's Journal.
He explained that behind-the-scenes friction between Bond producers and their new studio heads had mired progress.
Hinting at potential legal issues, the director wondered: "I mean, is there going to be another Bond? That's the question. I mean there's this legal thing right now."
"And now, of course, they have this problem with Amazon... God knows what's going to happen," Campbell added.

Despite his bleak predictions, the director still holds faith in the “fantastic” original Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson - who will make the final decision on the franchise’s biggest questions.
To that end, Campbell swatted away reports of a mooted Bond spin-off TV series.
“I know Barbara will absolutely stick to her guns and say this is a theatrical experience. This is not going to go to streaming immediately,” he assured.
The 81-year-old declared: "Bond is always an event picture. That's the point. A Bond film. Wow. I always love it when a new Bond comes out."
Previously, Broccoli was reported to have blasted execs at Amazon as "f***ing idiots" amid differences in the creative direction of the Bond franchise.
Another key question still hanging over the future of Bond is what actor will step into the role after Daniel Craig’s exit.
The question remains unanswered with actors falling in and out of favour to become the next 007.

However, previous favourite and Happy Valley star James Norton remains the favourite to succeed in betting markets.
Other commonly touted names like Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Theo James remain in contention with no clear preference among Bond producers yet emerging.
