Line of Duty creator and Trigger Point executive producer Jed Mercurio has spoken out about the future of the award-winning ITV drama.
Led by familiar Mercurio collaborator Vicky McClure, the second season of Trigger Point begins on Sunday evening on ITV.
McClure returns as Lana ‘Wash’ Washington, an experienced bomb disposal officer working with the Met Police, and season two kicks off with her returning from work duties in Estonia in which she's been leading training exercises.
But as soon as she's back in London, terror strikes as Lana is required to attend a bomb attack in the city - despite not having returned to active duty.
As it's been months since Lana was thrown into the thick of the action, the second series will see if she's able to assimilate back into the forefront of the drama and keep the capital safe.
Seeing as Trigger Point is taking over the same timeslot as ITV's hugely popular Vera - which will be back for another series next year - and raked in an average of 9.5million viewers per episode in series one, fans will undoubtedly be keen to know if McClure and co will be back beyond the second run.

But Mercurio has admitted there are no concrete plans in place for future Trigger Point episodes beyond the current series.
In fact, the Line of Duty mastermind has claimed the team is "not thinking" about a renewal just yet.
Ahead of the series two premiere, Mercurio told ITV: "I don't think you can predict whether shows will be long-running, all you can do is do the best possible job with each season and hope it connects with the audience.
"If we're fortunate enough that season two is viewed with the same enthusiasm as season one then it would be brilliant if we could do season three, but we're not thinking about that yet.

"We'd love season two to be a hit and to have opportunities to do other seasons, but no one's counting their chickens."
The prospect of filming future series of Trigger Point does sound an exciting one for Mercurio, however, judging by his thoughts on working with McClure once again.
Paying tribute to the Trigger Point and Line of Duty star, Mercurio said: "It's great working with Vicky – we have obviously worked together for a long time on Line of Duty, which has more of an ensemble cast to share the stories. Whereas Trigger Point is absolutely about Vicky as the star of the show.
"That means she has a very high workload and she's filming pretty much every day. She's very involved in how the stories affect her character, and as an executive producer she's very involved in the production process.

"So she's got a really strong insight into how things will work and she does it all in a very inclusive and professional way.
"She’s an absolute delight to work with and she’s brilliant at raising people’s spirits.
"When you do a returning series it’s especially important to create a happy atmosphere on set, but when you’re shooting in the freezing cold it’s not always very comfortable working long hours.
