Holly Willoughby and co. found their 13-year streak as Best Daytime Show ended in dramatic fashion at this year's National Television Awards

This Morning was bested by the BBC's The Repair Shop on Tuesday evening after a year of controversy surrounding the ITV show.

Holly Willoughby was in attendance at the event, just hours after her former co-presenter Phillip Schofield dramatically unfollowed her on social media.

Reports of a feud between the pair have been rife ever since Schofield, 61, left his role at ITV after lying to Willoughby, 42, and bosses about an "unwise but not illegal" relationship he had with a younger male runner.

Willoughby even tried to distance herself on the NTAs red carpet on Tuesday night by telling The Sun "people want things to move on" after a year of "ups and downs".

Schofield's exit led to claims emerging that This Morning was a "toxic" work environment - all while Willoughby and the show were trying to mend their reputation following "queue-gate".

But it appears This Morning has failed to win over the droves of fans who had been voting for the show for the past decade.

Even Willoughby's co-star Alison Hammond failed to bag the Best Presenter gong as Ant and Dec were crowned the winners.

Willoughby and the rest of the This Morning crew were also met with a chorus of boos when the show's name was read aloud at the London-based ceremony.

Following the historic snub which left the This Morning crew empty-handed, a number of disgruntled ITV viewers have taken to social media to ask if the channel has "gotten the message" about the public perception of the show now.

Several Twitter users even pleaded with ITV to pack in This Morning for good given its monumental failure at the awards.

Referring to the ITV show, one frustrated Twitter user raged: "Hope you all get booed, and then ITV realise how unpopular #thismorning has become and axe it before Christmas."

Meanwhile, a second reveled in the audience's frosty reception: "#ThisMorning it was amazing that the public showed This Morning how they felt and didn’t vote for them to win best daytime show at the NTA’s this morning has run its course and should be scrapped."

"The best program won," a third weighed in. "This Morning has run its course it’s not the same since Phil went, I don’t watch it anymore."

While a fourth suggested: "I think it’s safe to say after tonight’s snub at the #NTAs the public have just fallen out of love with the once adored #HollyWilloughby. #ThisMorning."

Elsewhere, a fifth pulled no punches: "And on that note. @ITV put #ThisMorning and Holly out of their misery #NTAs."

And a sixth echoed: "Not much support.. things need changing on that show! #NTAs #ThisMorning."

This Morning itself released a statement following the awards ceremony and the emphatic loss as it paid tribute to the Jay Blades-led Repair Shop.

The show's statement read: "Congratulations to The Repair Shop on their win at this year's National Television Awards.

"We also want to say thank you to you, our viewers, for all of your votes.

"It's always an honour to be nominated, as we make this show for you and appreciate all of your support."
