Music journalist Mick Wall has hit out at the Grammy Awards, claiming the event is one where the “tail wags the dog”.
Lamenting its “predictable” winners, Wall argued with showbiz reporter Ellie Phillips about whether the ceremony has lost its meaning.
“The Grammys is the industry voting for itself”, he said.
“I could have told you yesterday that Taylor Swift would win and Billie Eilish would get an award.
“Whoever happens to be the big person of the moment.
“The tail wags the dog. They get together and ask, who are we promoting? Who is available?
“Taylor Swift used it as an opportunity to promote her fourth album, it’s disingenuous.
“I think it’s all very scripted and disingenuous.”
Isabel Webster interjected to suggest that the arguments put forward by Wall are “what the Grammys are all about”.
Ellie Phillips argued that the Grammys “still has meaning”, saying they are a dream for many artists.
