East 17 say that ‘everyone makes mistakes’ when discussing former drug addiction

East 17 have opened up about their former frontman Bryan Harvey's drug addiction.

The lead singer was sacked from the teen band when he claimed that ecstacy was a "safe" drug in the late 90's.

Talking to GBNews about their former bandmate, Terry Coldwell who is the only original member left in the band said: "We have good memories of the past.

"We were working seven days a week in close proximity to one another so you are bound to have little arguments.

Robbie Craig, who has since joined the band chimed in: "I think that you were all young, you were young boys.

"I think Bryan was a very good frontman. At the end of the day everyone makes mistakes."

East 17 rose to fame with their Christmas hit Stay Another Day and famously kept Mariah Carey's hit All I Want For Christmas out of the number one slot in 1994.

The original band members included Harvey and Coldwell alongside Tony Mortimer and John Hendy. As of 2020 the band consists of Coldwell, Craig and Joe Livermore.

It seems that the group are planning to reach the top spot for Christmas again and have a new festive hit on the way.

Talking about their latest song called Merry Quitmas Terry said: "We have collaborated with a company called Riot Labs and we've bought out a charity single where 100% of proceeds go to UK cancer charities.

"It's a campaign to try and get people to kind of give up smoking."

He later added that the campaign is something that is close to his heart and said: "I've been smoking for many years myself and since I was 40, which was 10 years ago, every year that's been my New Year's resolution to give up smoking, and it hasn't quite worked.

"So this year, with the help of Right Labs as well, I'm going to be quitting smoking.

"When I'm at home, I have a cigarette out in the garden and my kids always moaning at me.
