The GB News presenter announced last month he and Langsford had decided to split

Eamonn Holmes has bravely and candidly opened up following his recent split from wife of 14 years, Ruth Langsford.

Speaking at Tuesday afternoon's TRIC Awards, which saw GB News pick up several accolades, Holmes, 64, admitted he was "not OK".

In his first public appearance since the split was confirmed, Holmes told the Mirror: "I'm not OK. This is not a good time at all."

The broadcaster went on to add about Langsford: "It's too early to say but I hope we can still be friends."

Holmes is also battling the repercussions of a botched back operation from last year and appeared on stage using a walking aid to assist him.

He told the publication he had considered missing the awards due to being in so much pain.

"I wasn’t going to come, but I’ve got this new chair with all these gadgets," he explained.

GB News Breakfast, which Holmes fronts alongside Isabel Webster, was named the Best News programme at the awards.

The presenter told the audience: "I had an operation a year and a half ago, and two things went wrong so I have two things in my back I don’t want. So I’ll happily accept this."

Prior to the show, he opened up to the publication about his health struggles, admitting: "I get very resentful that I'm not the way I used to be but I get on with it.

"I work hard at trying to walk. It’s very hard to get through a normal day but I have help from people around me."

He also confessed he felt he was on "borrowed time" because his father died in 1991 at the age of 65 following a heart attack.

Last month, it was announced Holmes and Langsford had decided to call time on their marriage.

Commenting on the separation, Holmes stated at the time: "We'd just like to thank people for your support for Ruth and I over the last few days as to the news of our separation. Your support for both of us is very much appreciated."
