Holmes claims the broadcaster did not carry out a thorough investigation

Eamonn Holmes has launched a fresh attack on ITV management as the GB News presenter has demanded a transcript from the Phillip Schofield probe.

It comes as ITV CEO Carolyn McCall faces questions over the broadcaster’s handling of Phillip Schofield’s affair with a This Morning colleague.

Schofield, 61, admitted to having an affair with the much younger male, a development which put ITV and This Morning under scrutiny.

Speaking of the investigation, Eamonn Holmes has hit out at ITV, claiming that the broadcaster did not carry out a thorough inquiry when they were first made aware of the affair.

“They didn’t ask [if he was having an affair], I know exactly what they asked” Holmes said on GB News.

“They need a transcript of what actually took place that day because that was not a thorough investigation” he added.

He went on to say that Carolyn McCall needs to reassure the media committee on the broadcaster’s disciplinary procedures during the questioning.

The presenter added: “She has to reassure people on how she protects people and those who are vulnerable”.

Holmes has previously made allegations regarding the culture behind the scenes at This Morning in the wake of Schofield’s departure, saying the “toxicity” was “with him”.

However, Schofield was quick to defend the show after such suggestions.

Concurring Holmes’ statement was Andrew Pierce, who said ITV “botched the investigation.”

“Carolyn McCall had a duty to get to the bottom of this. It was widely rumoured at ITV that this affair was going on” Pierce said.

He added: “ITV botched this inquiry, it wasn’t even an inquiry.”

Dame Carolyn is answering questions put forward by the Media Committee about the broadcaster’s approach to safeguarding and complaint handling.

The ITV CEO has written to Caroline Dinenage, chair of the CMS committee, culture secretary Lucy Frazer and Ofcom chief executive Melanie Dawes, to confirm that circumstances surrounding Schofield’s affair and the broadcaster's response will be examined in an external review.
