The pop star has admitted to being a 'Diva' and 'high maintenance' in the past

GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes has revealed details of a disastrous interview attempt with Mariah Carey - with the global superstar keeping him waiting for hours before the encounter fell apart.

Speaking with co-host Isabel Webster during a discussion about favourite Christmas songs, Eamonn made it clear he wasn't a fan of the singer, despite her festive hits.

"The song may be lovely, but she's not lovely. I can't listen to anything she says," Eamonn told Isabel Webster when she mentioned liking All I Want for Christmas.

Isabel begged: "Please tell us what she was like. Tell us the gossip."

Eamonn explained: "I went to interview her and basically to cut a very long story short, she kept me waiting for four or five hours, and was lying on a chaise longue.

"I went over and I laid down beside her, and her entourage went ballistic. They asked what's happening? What's going on here?

"I said, I'm just lying down beside Miss Carey. They said Miss Carey is very tired, she can't do this interview.

"I said she's very tired? I've been up from four this morning. I did breakfast television and she's kept me waiting for hours, so I think I can lie down here.

"They said, this cannot happen. You've got to get up. I said, look, listen, there's only way this interview is going to happen. Either she sits up with me and I sit up or we both lie down. You make your choice. Interview didn't happen."

The incident appears to align with Carey's well-documented preference for chaise longues, with The Guardian noting she once explained on MTV Cribs that she has one in her kitchen because "I have a rule against sitting up straight".

Carey herself has been open about her high-maintenance reputation, embracing the diva label wholeheartedly.

In an interview with The Guardian, the superstar was unapologetic about her behaviour.

"You know what? I don't give a s****. I f***** am high-maintenance because I deserve to be at this point," she declared.

"That may sound arrogant, but I hope you frame it within the context of coming from nothing," she explained.

Carey insisted she had earned the right to be demanding after years of hard work.

"If I can't be high-maintenance after working my ass off my entire life, oh, I'm sorry - I didn't realise we all had to be low-maintenance. Hell, no!" she said.

She added that she "was always high-maintenance" but simply "didn't have anyone to do the maintenance" during her childhood.

When asked if she minds being called a diva, Carey was equally dismissive of any criticism, "No! Who the f*** cares?" she responded.
