The award was Moore’s first in her 45 years in the entertainment industry
Golden Globes viewers were in floods of tears as actress Demi Moore addressed the glitzy event after winning the Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy award on Sunday.
The 62-year-old actress won for her hugely celebrated performance in 2024’s body horror hit The Substance.
The film, directed by French auteur Coralie Fargeat, sees Moore star as a fading Hollywood star who takes a drug that creates a younger copy of herself – played by Margaret Qualley.
It deals with questions of beauty standards and the treatment of women, both younger and older, in the entertainment industry.
That theme clearly struck a chord with Moore, who explored her own experience in showbiz during her acceptance speech.
"30 years ago, I had a producer tell me that I was a 'popcorn' actress and at that time, I made that mean that this wasn't something that I was allowed to have,” the actress began, clutching her award.

Moore explained this made her believe she “could do movies that were successful, that made a lot of money, but that I couldn't be acknowledged".
"I bought in, and I believed that, and that corroded me over time,” she revealed, adding: “I thought a few years ago that maybe this was it, maybe I was complete. I've done what I was supposed to do.”
The 62-year-old actress has led a long and successful 45-year-long career in film, starring in classics like Ghost and Indecent Proposal, but awards had alluded her until now.
"And as I was at kind of a low point, I had this magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box, absolutely bonkers script come across my desk called The Substance, and the universe told me that you're not done,” she declared triumphantly.

Moore thanked director Fargeat and those around her for reminding her "that I do belong".
Applause from the audience in The Beverly Hilton venue closed out her speech, but it was fans at home who shared the most emotional reactions.
“Congratulations to Demi Moore!!! THE SUBSTANCE was amazing. I’m ugly crying over here. That was such a genuine, vulnerable, and humble speech from a powerhouse actress,” one viewer praised on X.
Another said they were: “Still crying over demi moore’s speech btw. no one deserved it more.”
Many fans similarly shared that Moore’s speech had left them in tears
“Demi Moore speech has me crying.... She really deserves that award,” a third revealed.
