The newsreader is currently the face of Channel 5 News following his BBC exit

Dan Walker has come under fire from a number of TV viewers after one of his latest reports.

The former BBC Breakfast star set off to Benidorm, Spain on Tuesday evening to deliver the exclusive results of a survey for Channel 5 viewers.

Channel 5 conducted a survey among members of the public to discover their changing attitudes towards climate change after a summer of record-breaking temperatures across Europe.

Greece was just one country that has seen its fair share of wildfires exacerbated by rising temperatures while several other Southern European countries have been basking in scorching heat.

Reporting live from Benidorm, Walker was armed with the results, including a figure which states 64 percent of people are now more "conscious of climate change as a global issue" following this summer's weather.

Other results include 52 percent of those surveyed being worried about their holiday plans following the wildfires and 48 percent of people planning to avoid holidays abroad because of rising temperatures and costs.

In a pre-recorded package from earlier in the day, Walker also spoke to holiday-makers in the Spanish hotspot to see how they're coping with the heat.

Under the title "Boiling Benidorm", Walker's report also included an interview with a Thomas Cook spokesperson to see how the company is approaching the change in weather.

Anger arose from a number of people after Walker retweeted the report from the Channel 5 News account onto his own Twitter page.

Several were left outraged and questioned why Walker had to be in Benidorm to deliver the report and what impact his travel arrangements would have had on the environment.

Taking to Twitter, one fan put Walker on the spot as the asked: "How did you get there @mrdanwalker?"

While a second hit out at the entire report: "The irony of this piece, its beyond parody."

Meanwhile, another fan demanded answers: "Why did he travel to Benidorm to give a report that could have been recorded in his own front room?"

And a fourth sarcastically jibed: "Did he get there by pedalo?"

Another also opted for a tongue-in-cheek take on the report: "He looks good considering he must have swum there to do that little piece to camera. He did swim there didn’t he?"

While a sixth similarly raged: "Looks absolutely terrible. Imagine the hardship of doing climate reporting from *check notes* Benidorm in July."

Walker hasn't addressed the backlash he's faced but did take the time to thank the crew who've set off to Benidorm with him.

In a separate post, he shared a series of sun-soaked selfies alongside members of the crew as he penned: "It’s always fun when you have no autocue for a 1 hour live programme from Benidorm about our changing holiday habits.

"Thanks to everyone who we spoke to & to all our guests. Paolo played a blinder on cameras and producer Jon was a superstar - as was Jorge from @hotelcimbel." (sic)
