The Amazing Spaces host shared a post on social media detailing the frightening incident, which sparked concern among his fans.

"To the little **** who stole my watch tonight... I pity you," he wrote on Instagram.

"Enjoying an amazing pre-Christmas lunch with my kids today. That’s all that matter. Thank you to everyone who made kind, caring and considerate comments," he continued.

In another comment, the presenter penned: "Thank you for all of your kind words. I really appreciate it.

" At the end of the day it’s only a watch…I loved it but thankfully it had no sentimental value…"

Supportive fans assured Clarke he had a right to be angry, with one writing: "Be proud of yourself, that you did the right thing for you & your family. If this happened to your daughter you’d hope she would do the same thing. You have shown her the way."

"@mrgeorgeclarke unfortunately George these little ***** have no value of life. You did the right thing. This country is f****d," a second shared.

"This is one of those times that I wish Instagram had a few different reaction emojis. Didn't really want to "heart" this one; an angry emoji would have been better! I hearted it to show support and sympathy though. Sending hugs," a third added.

Another user remarked: "Sadly mate it’s Broken Britain."

"I got mine forcefully taken in broad daylight in Soho the minute I came out from a restaurant by two young teenagers. In complete shock for two days. Beyond words," another fan shared.

"My friend has a big City centre jewellery shop and he won’t touch expensive watches anymore. Hope you’re OK. It happens to too many decent hardworking people," a sixth revealed.

Someone else advised: "They stole your watch, but don’t let them steal your time." (sic)

Clarke is best-known for his work on Channel 4 shows such as The Restoration Man and George Clarke's Amazing Spaces.

It comes amid a spate of similar incidents in the capital, with Clarke's representative telling The Standard that the robbery took place near Oxford Circus.

Just last month, it was reported that BBC broadcaster Nicky Campbell was targeted by a phone thief near Oxford Street.

The Radio 5 Live host was able to snatch back his phone after an an attempted theft in central London.
